No, it's reactionary.

Also, BlackLivesMatter and Black Power are clearly two different things. But I guess that wouldn't be as useful bait, would it?

Of course it is. It's a supremacist rallying cry. I don't have a problem with it, though. People can have differing opinions and voice them.

This is such a stupid argument. The amount of institutional power one group holds over another has no bearing on racism.

It's not a racist term because, as pointed out, it's a reactionary term. It is in reaction to generations of supremacist movements that said and viewed black people, among others, as inferior. It's not about a claim to superiority.

If you just blindly parallel it to "white power" without context, then yes. With context, absolutely not; "black power" is a term for blacks in America that was born from an era when blacks were marginalized, shunned, discriminated against, & could be easily killed with little fear of repercussion. It was a term meant as a rallying cry to find the strength to fight a blatantly unfair system.

this isn't true...

I mean here, "Black power" is generally thought of as the name of a gang more than as anything racial (the gang is predominantly people who'd be considered "black" here, but far from completely black).

But in the context most of the world would see it in, yes, it's racist.

Dude. You DO know that at that time, even though it was illegal on paper, in many areas it wasn't enforced when blacks were the victims?

I'm all for calling out the bullshit people accuse of happening in the present day, but it's well established that blacks really were the victim of that kinda shit back then.

It is, by definition, a racist term. However, it is most certainly not as racist as a term like 'white power' is.

This is correct.

But also, this is CE, so it largely won't matter.
