What? I was yikesing his continued use of stereotypes.

He literally said it would be offensive. Recognizing that basketball is a black stereotype isn't the same thing as using it as an excuse for prejudice.

And his point is even better when you recognize the nebulous claim of genetics being the reason for success or white privilege being the reason. Both are difficult to nail down as a sole or intrinsic factor.

When you attack a group of people for a trait that those people all individually have, how can it be taken as anything BUT a personal attack? Maybe instead of generalizing and attacking whole groups of people and then claiming it's nothing personal, people should just... stop generalizing and attacking whole groups of people. If you attack somebody for their race and they get pissed off, they're not the jerk in the equation, YOU are for attacking them for their race.

do you know what "personal" means? if it's talking about a GROUP having privilege in society, its not a personal attack against individual white people (but they take it that way, in many cases). It's not blaming an individual person, but instead a system which is promoted inequity. you aren't attacking any individual for their race, or for any reason.

you are saying a situation is bad, and that it should be addressed.

Homeless women tend to get more pity than homeless men. That's a female privilege.

Names like "Ben" are less likely to have their job applications skipped over than "Jamal" or "Carlos". That's a white privilege.

Does that always happen? No. But it happens enough to cause a discrepancy. White privilege describes that discrepancy.

Conservatives are always saying "facts over feelings." If their feelings are hurt over the name "white privilege", then they should suck it up. White privilege is a fact.

Or do they agree with liberals that feelings matter after all and renaming terms is good?
