Dog intelligence varies much more wildly than cat intelligence. The smart ones can be annoying since they're still just animals, but at the higher end can still make for better pets than cats, while the dumb ones are easily and invariably at least 10x worse than the worst cats.

-Don't have to walk them 2-3x a day in the freezing rain. Don't to literally grab s*** with a bag over my hands like a cave man. Just rake out the litter with a tool like a modern man.
-Can leave the house for 5 days for vacation without a sitter if you leave extra food and litter
-Small so they don't need a lot of space.
-less likely to destroy anything expensive
-if you have an outdoor cat, they take care of themselves half the time
-when they lick you, it's not a drench of saliva all over you

Also anything you interpret as cat affection is them thinking you smell like shit so they try to put their scent on you. You can see them cleaning themselves afterwards because they are so disgusted. Cat affection is literally them slowly blinking at you. Look it up.

Cats are cool, and I've owned several. I'd still pick a dog over a cat, though, if only because a dog can help protect your family and home.
