it suffers from the same problem as the original - too easy to get items. The shops become virtually useless, even if you decide to grind so your weapons get used up. The monsters drop so much and you find so much everywhere that you can have humans raising AGL, SPR and STR, as well as having espers raising AGL, SPR and DEF and still have a surplus. I really feel like I need to grind soon, but without grinding I'm still a bit ahead of the curve.

If this is SaGa 2 DS you are talking about, I don't recall needing to grind at any point.

Where what?

The Game Boy game Final Fantasy Legend 2 got a remake for DS a couple years ago, and it's really good (supposing you like the original, of course). There was a group that did a pretty neat translation as well, although you can get through it in Japanese quite easily, too. There is some Muse stuff that you might miss out on, but other than that most weapon names, ability names etc are in English with katakana, so you just need to learn some few characters.

No, I really don't need to grind in order to make my characters stronger. Only in order to make use of all the weapons I got. Although, my esper has been lagging behind a bit in SPR, because I focus so much on his AGL and DEF. And my humans could definitely use some more SPR as well. But I'm definitely on track as far as power goes, and my robot will carry me to the final boss pretty much.

Ah ok. Yeah I know the games are made, I thought there was official release outside Japan.

There wasn't, sorry :(
They're both quite solid actually, SaGa 2 is really close to the original, so much so that you can opt out of most of the new content. SaGa 3 is a recast so that it plays a lot more like an actual SaGa game, so for me it's a massive improvement.

I agree the games are really good. I actually got SaGa 2 DS the day it released because I love the series (even the original GameBoy SaGa 3). The new version of SaGa 3 is really great though. I always enjoyed the story and class system and it is improved a lot by being made to play more like a SaGa game.

I played the DS remake up to the battle against Apollo, never got around to finishing it. Was good. I need to go back to it and finish it sometime.

It would've been kinda cool to see a similar remake of the original SaGa though.

I would say all three games definitely fit in a top ten of the original Gameboy library. Very solid titles ahead of their time.

Oh, so you were really close to the ending, huh. One nice thing is that they made the Haniwa a bit easier to find compared to the original. That's a big relief. And yeah, a remake of the first game would be great. Especially since it's more in need of QoL changes than the other two were.

Check out the Wonderswan Color remake of the first game if you haven't yet. It's sadly kana only but thankfully the story is simple and dialogue minimal, plus you likely already know it all already.

I remember trying to figure it out back in the day, but at that time I had no idea about kana or anything. But it doesn't revamp any of the mechanics at all, right?

The monster system is changed a bit. Can't really remember all of it, but you can definitely see what meat makes you what based on past transformations, kind of like the DS remakes. It's in a menu somewhere though.

Huh, turns out I do have to grind a little bit. My SPR in general is too low to tank Apollo's Flare, so I'll need to slap some magic books onto my boys and go nuts for a while. I needed this anyway, so it's not too bad.

Oh and Dragon Shield is probably by far the most OP item in the game.
