My parents had tapes from before I was born, to when I was 5, to when I was even older in the early 2000s. Because the VHS is at risk of falling apart with any more time, I'm converting them all to digital. I bought all the necessary equipment today and have started the process for one of the tapes from 1996. I remember these memories so clearly and watching the tape as it records over into an mpeg is so emotionally powerful. It's making me cry and I'm not sure how to feel.

Sad, happy, fondness, fear at how fast time has gone, fear at seeing how young my grandma and my parents and aunts/uncles used to be and how quickly it all went by. Gratitude for having these beautiful moments recorded. Excitement at the idea of putting these together and distributing them to my family via the cloud. Excited to make more memories and maintain an entire archive for the family.

Ultimately going through these tapes is a really emotional and unique experience. D: :(
