My top 3 most used are YouTube, Reddit and GameFAQs (if they don't need to be focused on games). I would rank them Reddit > YT > GFAQs (in terms of quality) probably, although I use them for different things (you wouldn't use YT for discussion lol).

The gaming boards on here are trash. Looking at the Cyberpunk 2077 (PS4) board last night reminded me of that fact. It's 90% arguing about first vs. third-person (for comparison, the cyberpunkgame subreddit is nowhere near as bad, and also more active). I *do* still like FAQs though (and the boards if I'm looking for specific info rather than discussion), and you get the odd decent discussion on gaming on the social boards like here. NGG is mostly trolling.

Reddit has some great general gaming subreddits (patientgamers and truegaming rather than the trash r/gaming), ones for specific games/franchises (I like Morrowind, DeusEx, fnv and cyberpunkgame) and ones for genres/other topics (metroidvania, jrpg, etc.). For keeping up to date on the latest info and being introduced to new channels, sites, etc., Reddit is second-to-none also.

Then YT is obviously great if you want to see some actual game footage, Let's Plays, walkthroughs, reviews, news, etc. I thought about ranking it above Reddit.

In terms of online game publications, I don't really use one exclusively. I mostly follow links to articles on Reddit or watch YT videos.
