I've seen pretty much all themes done well, including some weird ones from Mario and kirby My favorite game of all time (super Mario world) is mostly themeless --- Just because you're trash doesn't mean you can't do great things. Like Cheese Bridge being made of cheese and Soda Lake being filled with soda. Like it's hard to say something like grass, ice or desert are favorites, because they're so cliche. But I'd also think a good choice for favorite is something that could fit into any game, so a more offbeat one like food-themed wouldn't work either. So in that case, maybe castles and forests?
