Lately I've been having a hard time finding new TV shows to watch. I've been running through a lot of shows that leave me bored and disinterested after a couple episodes, so I thought maybe the board would have some ideas that I've either overlooked or just flat-out never heard of before.

For some reference, here are some of my favorite shows:

Drama - West Wing, Game of Thrones, The Good Wife/Fight, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Penny Dreadful

Comedy - Arrested Development, The Office, Boston Legal, Community, Curb Your Enthusiasm

On another note, deliberately slow-paced shows tend to not do so well with me. Thanks for your help!

Yes! My roommates and I watched every episode together for the last three years' worth of seasons. I love it immensely.

Hannibal?

Watched the first season and some of the second. I really don't like serial killer-related stuff that much, but it was pretty good. I lost interest eventually though.

You have very similar tv-watching tastes to me (including Boston Legal!) so I gotta recommend my own ones. All dramas.

-Oz, HBO show (1997-2003) about prison life, one of the best cast of characters in any show ever. Very graphic and feels authentic, though it gets a little overboard at times. Has a real Game of Thrones-ish "anybody could die at any moment" aspect to it. And yes, I think it starts off a bit slow in Season 1, they're trying to figure out where they're going... but the S1 finale onwards is just great. 8 episodes per season except 16 in season 4, 6 seasons, so 56 episodes in all (around an hour per HBO standards)

-Early Edition: if you like "case of the week" stuff, this one's from the 90s and is just a simple, fun show. Kyle Chandler is the perfect everyman! Was Hallmark channel-esque before the Hallmark channel was a thing (I think it airs on there now)

-Breaking Bad: though it does start off a little slow, it kicks into high gear halfway through S2 and never stops

-Lost: just need to recommend it...

Watched it, loved it, highly recommend it as well!

I'll give it a shot. I'm usually not a Hallmark kind of guy, but I do like Kyle Chandler.

Watched into season 3 and eventually just had to give up. It was two things that led to me dropping the show: I couldn't stand Walter. He was a dumb motherfucker. And I found it extremely hard to reward dumb motherfuckers for dumb motherfuckery. I MIGHT have been able to stick it out if the pace was faster. Like, I got to the fly episode everyone raved about at one point, and I was just very unimpressed. I've seen other bottle episodes on other shows, and this felt like one of many to me. I'm well-aware that everyone thinks this is the be-all and end-all of storytelling, but it just didn't leave an impression on me. When characters make stupid decisions, I really get disengaged.

I personally loved LOST thanks to a host of really engaging characters, although I recognize that it has bursts of weak episodes here and there. Emotionally, the show was super-compelling for me.

Probably won't do Better Call Saul since I can't finish Breaking Bad.

Lucifer is amazing! They need to do away with the monster-of-the-week plots at this point, however. The characters deserve more.

Elementary is pretty good. Thanks for reminding me of it. I need to get back into it.

Trailer Park Boys always looked like "not my kind of show". I'll add it to my list to try though.

Archer is awesome and I love it.

Bojack Horseman. I've seen the name a couple of places around here, so I will add this to my list as well. Thanks.

12 Monkeys seems like a very you show if you can find it. SyFy show that just finished earlier this year. Good action backs a complex plot with strong continuity, which is particularly impressive considering the show's plot heavily involves Time Travel. Generally a likable cast too.

Comedy I recommend Titus. Not for any real reason specific to you but just because I think it was great, unique, and largely overlooked in its day.

Added. I love the movie but I've always been a little hesitant because it's a take-off of a film and it also comes from SyFy.

Fly is a very mixed episode. Some people think it's great others think it's one of the worst in the series. I lean towards the latter end, myself. It's better than the more boring mainline episodes but not much beyond that.

Narcos - Pass. I've never been big on drug-related shows.
Luke cage - Watched it. It's fine; I'm not a big fan of anything about the show other than Cage himself.
F is for family - I don't really like Bill Burr, so I'm going to pass on this one.
The IT crowd - I've heard about this often, so I'm going to put it on the list.
Red dwarf - This looks interesting, so I'll add it. I like a good sci fi show.
Peep show - Not really interested based on the synopsis, so for now it's not going on the list.
Blackadder - Watched the first couple of episodes but I really didn't find it all that amusing.
Mr Bean - Watched it when I was younger and enjoyed it a lot.
That 70s show - Watched some of it, hated it.
The office uk - Watched it, loved it.
NCIS - Passing super-hard on this. I don't like procedural shows with the exception of one or two.
24 - Watched it, enjoyed it for the most part.
CSI - Passing even harder on this one.
Law and order special victims unit - Tried it, couldn't get into it.
Law and order - Absolutely loved it. The dichotomy between the police and the lawyers and the separation into two functionally separate shows was excellent; it's too bad SVU couldn't figure out how to make that work.
Brooklyn nine nine - Watch it, love it.

Yeah it's hard to really sell Titus. I just think the cast is great. Stacy Keach in particular. Not sure why he hasn't been in more comedies. It deals with dark/SRS subject matter from time to time if that's a thing that helps sell you but I think comedies in general are a tough sell. Either you find em funny or you don't you know?

Oh uh Burn Notice is also great.

It hits a nice balance of episode of the week while gradually building plot during the episodes for big moments from time to time. This allows for big moments while avoiding the Breaking Bad problem of episodes that serve no point other than to build to other ones.

Basically about a spy who got blacklisted by the US government and solves problems for people using his skills. This veers off into ridiculous territory often but I find it enjoyable.

I recommend watching the pilot followed by Season 3 Episode 11, Friendly Fire, as a good litmus test of whether you'll like it. The pilot introduces the characters and overall feel of the show and S3E11 is a good example of peak ridiculousness of the show (that doesn't really spoil anything) in that if you find that episode more enjoyable than stupid (or even "fun but maybe a bit too absurd") you'll probably like most episodes

Though if you like the pilot enough then just going through episodes in order is fine too

Uh..what
This is the first time I hear there are people that liked this episode
It has the lowest episode ranking in the show in IMDB (I wish they didn't remove the "Rated Episodes" feature so I could show you easily, but believe me)
Everyone that I know IRL hated it, it was a dumb filler
Now if you didn't like Ozymandias...this would be a different story (a episode from season 5, held the 1st spot of "Highest rated TV episode" for years with a 10/10 score, somehow fell down to 7th spot lately though)

I think the people who like Fly are just really loud about liking it, mostly. It's definitely an episode that is easier to blow smoke up its ass than a lot of underappreciated episodes. Like if you try to praise something for the sake of praising it, and want to sound intelligent while doing so, the Fly is really easy to do that with.

Seconding Burn Notice and watching the pilot then Friendly Fire to see if you like it, I don't watch much TV and this is one of the few shows I've watched all the way through in recent years. As Lopen said it does a really good job of balancing client of the week stuff with the overarching plot and has fun with recurring characters.

Added. I love the movie but I've always been a little hesitant because it's a take-off of a film and it also comes from SyFy.

If it helps, the original pitch had nothing to do with 12 Monkeys at all, but the studio told them to rename everyone after characters from the film so they could market it as an adaptation. And it is really good- I've only seen the first season so far, but it's that rarest of things- a coherent time travel story.

I also recommend Wynonna Earp. And I wish UK Netflix would hurry up and add Season 2.
