The mean babysitter/assistant.

Like, the film wants us to dislike her so it keeps putting her in a bad light and it ends with a long, brutal, extended death scene that seems needlessly cruel?

But really, what's her biggest sin? That she was annoyed two dipshit kids were ignoring her instructions and perpetuating family drama?

It seemed so...idk, the whole scene makes me feel weird. Like they expected me to go "Ha! She got what she deserved! Nagging woman!"

I really hated that death. When I was watching it the first time in theaters (well, only time I've seen it), I was shocked that she suffered such a horrible death. That's some evil villain death right there. Damn.

Seriously.

It almost feels misogynistic. "Here's your stereotypicial nagging babysitter/cold business woman that lacks family values! Watch her die a horrible death!"

This scene is exactly why I hated JW and the difference between JP and JW. Everyone in JP who got it, did deservingly. Even Muldoon, who maybe wasnt pure evil, understood the hunt. Eventually you can lose.

The babysitter wasnt even mean. She actually cared about the kids safety. That scene creeped me out, it shows how different the real world has become since JP. Much angrier.

Agreed but consider it is the first on-screen death of a female character in the series. They decided to make it that gruesome.

For some reason I thought that little girl got killed by the tiny raptors in JP2 but I haven't seen that movie in years.

yea, it was fucked up. but there is a 2nd disturbing death in that same movie. the guard that gets eaten by a t rex, locked in a cage with it. he cries before he dies. I didn't like that either. also my brother went to the same college as that guy (Gonzaga Univeristy) he never met the guy but apparently he got famous among alumnus of that school just cause of that role.

You don't need blood to make a death gruesome. Fuck out of here with that stupid ass logic.

It was brutal because she's picked up by the Pterodactyls and picked at by them for a bit and then dunked in the water for a bit, and then eaten. That's pretty damn gruesome.

The dude that got split in two, right?

I think it's because the actual physical violence when the T-Rex got him was short and brutal, even if the scene itself was a bit long, but this chick got mauled for like 2 minutes straight on-camera.

I may be miss-remembering, but there was that random civ in JP2 who tries to escape the T-Rex in the city and can't get away and gets dragged behind a car and eaten.

There was also Eddie Carr death where he literally saved 3 people only to die a shitty death by being ripped into 2. I think the biggest reason people hate deaths like these is because they don't really "deserve" it. I mean hell, they don't get remembered at all, like you're supposed to forget they died. Reminds me how in that shitty 3rd Transformers movie they killed off Ironhide in a slow and agonizing way and no one even mentions him ever again. I mean yeah you can make the argument that's just how real life works, but this is a movie where you can literally write who lives and who dies and Jurassic Park is barely that realistic when it comes to real life (hell I hate how they don't try to portray the dinosaurs accurately because the rule of cool).

If you want a worst disturbing movie scene, look no further than the anime movie Akira where a girl named Koari does everything she can to help the boy she likes, gets abused by others and closely gets raped only to die in a very gruesome and painful manner. As soon as I saw that, I almost immediately shut off the movie. It went from a mediocre to a crappy movie because of that one scene. It's a very beautifully animated movie though.

They can eat anyone. But as a filmmaker, you shouldn't give super brutal death scenes to people unless it's for someone who deserves it, or to show someone is a villain. Now obviously, dinosaurs are just behaving as they should so the only reason to show a super brutal death from a dinosaur is to get rid of a scummy character.

I hope you can keep up.

why is that?

Because Game of Thrones is a violent show/book and any death a "good guy" receives is usually due to their own incompetence.

But that's literally the theme of GoT and it's also explicitly violent for the sake of being explicitly violent.

That's not the theme of the JP series, not at all.

I disagree. Hammond didn't die, but Muldoon did. And even in the books, where Hammond died, but Muldoon didn't, Ian Malcom died (originally).

I don't think the books or movies ever took a hard stance on the person's character determines if they live or die, more like who spielberg wanted to protect because he related to Hammond etc

Violence in entertainment is just as enticing and exciting as sex. It's carefully crafted to trigger our impulses and usually not a point about randomness of life and death (even deaths that seem to be this way, are obviously carefully crafted to send that message). So it's really not wrong to look at certain deaths and wonder what the creators wanted to tell us.

This one seems gratuitous. Whatever they wanted us to feel probably wasn't confusion and suspicion.

Game of Thrones fans must enjoy violence and rape. I think it makes them bad people but whatever, it's just a show.
