2 Parents who lost children and 1 Teacher who was a victim in the Parkland Shooting that left 17 students and teachers dead on February 11th were running to replace 3 incumbents on the Broward County School Board...However, each of them were running in DIFFERENT PARTIES and it appears the DEMOCRATS have seized the seats!!

Ryan Petty, whose daughter Alaina was killed on February was running against Donna Korn as BOTH were REPUBLICANS however the Republican County was endorsing Ryan for the seat as Donna was endorsed by Democrats and has since changed her party affiliation from Republican to Independent after she changed her views on gun laws. Donna received 50% of the vote compared to just 30% for Ryan and easily won re-election to remain on the board. Petty conceded the race who said that Broward schools needed improvements and congratulated Korn on the win.

However Petty's past social media posts came back to haunt him during this vote as he's made several posts against, Jewish people, african americans, liberals and GAY PEOPLE and was proposing to ARM TEACHERS which did not resonate with voters.

Richard Mendelson, a former Stoneman Douglas teacher was also running for School board but LOST to Democrat Laurie Rich Levinson as he too ran as a Republican and was endorsed by the Republican County. He too wanted to see teachers ARMED and said that arming teachers was more effective in stopping mass shootings than banning assault rifles.

Lori Alhadeff, whose daughter Alyssa was killed in the massacre ran as a Democrat in District 4 and was endorsed by Democrats after she vowed to never let what happened at Marjory Stoneman again and said she agreed with the policy to Ban AR-15's. She's a former teacher with a masters in education who says kids need second chances and a mentoring program aimed at steering kids away from the criminal justice system. She was the bright spot for Parkland survivors as she WON her Seat on the school board and will now have a voice on the School Board..
