Yeah this, unless it was like, super obvious like they gave me a fucking 50 or something.

I rarely ever even use cash anymore, and if you don't do the thing where you count the money back to me, I won't even notice how much I'm getting back.

This, though my bank gave me like $120 extra once and when I realized that I went and gave it back.

Give it back, that $5 isn't going to make my life any different but being $5 short would probably be a real bummer for the cashier.

I would wonder why they're giving me ang change in cash at all when I probably paid with my debit or credit card or a mobile app.

I get the thought process behind this, but even at a major chain, it's the little guy who is going to take the hit. Those few bucks won't be missed in the slightest by the corporate, but it's the cashier who is going to get in trouble when the drawer counts short.

Maybe the cashier is trying to redistribute the wealth!

Probably give it back. That cashier could lose their job over it.

Give it back if I'm still in the building and notice it. But if I only realized it when I got to my car or something I'd probably just keep it.

What kind of cashier loses their job over being a few dollars down one time.

Unless everyone is implying that they do this often, in which case maybe being a cashier isn't the best idea in the first place.

One time I noticed I got extra change back once I got home. At that point, it just wasn't worth going all the way back. But if I notice right away, I'll say something.

I'll give it back unless they've given me some reason to feel entitled to the extra change through poor service or whatnot.

Note I've received extra change one time I detected and gave it back so yeah I doubt it'll ever come up. I'm thinking mostly like, if the local supermarket that has overcharged me several times gave me an extra 5 bucks change I'd keep it. But then again they get away with charging me extra because I'm not carefully counting change/item ring ups so even if they gave me extra change I probably wouldn't notice.

You kidding? I'm not a thief. I'd give it back. I usually count my change so it's likely I'll catch it.
