It's working as intended.

They want to shut down independent journalism / media, wait for only the biggest whales to survive, and then implement Orwellian surveillance-state filtering on all media. It's basically the end-game push to exert total influence over what people think and believe.

seems like an awful idea, hopefully it gets voted down.

Article 13; which seeks to shift liability for platform users copyright infringements onto the platforms themselves and which critics contend will therefore push them towards creating upload filters to monitor all content before its posted, having a chilling effect on Internet expression. Critics sometimes dub this component censorship machines.

im not sure how that relates to copyright reform?

Unfortunately, the internet is a global thing, and every time the EU passes legislation that affects the internet, it affects us all. You know those lovely banners that talk about using cookies that appear now at the bottom of every website? That's because of EU laws.

Is this likely to pass? I know they delayed the vote over the summer because of the huge backlash against it, but I don't know if people in the EU are still fighting against it or how unpopular it is.

This appears to be a separate thing from Article 13. Nobody is talking about it outside of this topic here on GameFAQs, though.

@FLUFFYGERM
Could you please stay on topic? This topic is about EU Copyright reform; there is a separate on you've made about Australia's surveillance legislation. I agree they are both important, but it's hard enough to get people to notice and care about this law without muddying the discussion with other laws.

It's not really off-topic if he's proposing that the two are related. That itself might be a bit questionable, but he's relating it to this subject. It's on-topic.

Really, the rest of the world who don't want to comply with EU's shit, should just collectively block access to their websites from EU countries.

Citizens get pissed off, those who didn't really care before start to take action too, bam, problem solves itself.
