In a game where all your units are randomly generated, she's the only one (aside from missions where the story characters temporarily join you) with a fixed name and appearance, as she has a voiced role in the tutorial. She's scripted to survive and become a Ranger, and if you can keep her alive lone enough, Rangers can break the game.

You know Chryssalids? Terrifying giant insects that turn anything they kill into zombies that spawn more Chryssalids? In my game, by the time they turned up, Jane had a skill that gave her a free melee attack against anything that got close to her, and a sword looted from the Chosen Assassin that never missed. Result: every single Chryssalid that ever showed up just ran straight towards her and got sliced in half. Not one even managed to get off an attack, let alone kill/infect any of my team.

(Also, she's canonically Irish, but I edited her to be voiced by Alona Tal as Kat from Halo: Reach. Just made her even cooler).
