In China, if you can't pay for medicine or a medical procedure, the government actually expects the doctor to pay.

The worst part is that China has a ridiculously high rate of patients killing doctors because the doctors can't afford to pay for their surgeries or expensive medications.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Violence_against_doctors_in_China

National Ministry of Health statistics indicate that the number of violent incidents against hospitals and medical staff increased from about 10,000 in 2005 to more than 17,000 in 2010.[2] A survey by the Chinese Hospital Association reported an average of 27.3 assaults per hospital per year in 2012, up from 20.6 assaults per hospital per year in 2006.[3] In 2012, an editorial in The Lancet described the situation as a "crisis" for the practice of medicine in China.[4]

In one widely publicized incident in March 2012, a patient suffering from ankylosing spondylitis and tuberculosis used a knife to attack several doctors in Harbin after the patient was refused a drug treatment that he had requested. One doctor who had not been involved in the patient's case died.

Violence may stem from patient dissatisfaction with care, costs associated with insurance premiums, unrealistic expectations, and overworked and underpaid hospital staff,[1] as well as the rising cost of health care due to the government's inability to subsidize hospital operations.

Also

Yi Nao is the organized disturbance of hospitals or medical staff, usually to obtain compensation for actual or perceived medical malpractice.[1][9]Yi Nao is usually perpetrated by organised criminal groups hired by patients or their families, although Yi Nao gangs may also solicit activity. Yi Nao has been increasing in recent years.[10] A 2013 article in the British Medical Journal describes Yi Nao gangs as consisting "largely of unemployed people with a designated leader. They threaten and assault hospital personnel, damage facilities and equipment, and prevent the normal activities of the hospital."[1][11] Citing a survey published in 2006 of 270 tertiary hospitals, over 73% of the hospitals reported experiencing Yi Nao.[1]

Yep. People (the patients and the government) don't seem to realize what they're doing.

The government's solution, literally, is that they will not subsidize health care expenses. Period. Can't afford that surgery? Don't get it or have the doctor do it for free / pay for it.

Then they pay doctors like shit.

Then their propaganda machines boast about how much money the Chinese government spends on health care. Then the patients blame/attack the doctors.

This system is literally considered "superior" to the US's system in Michael Moore's "Sicko" documentary.

China is objectively an authoritarian regime. Its economics are whatever the Party thinks is the most beneficial to keep itself in power.

Whatever economic "freedom" exists in China is easily revocable.

Yeah. It's one thing to discourage religion, revoke tax-exempt status, etc; but literally killing people over it is definitely going way too far.

No but they were the largest group and heavily targeted by China. They had kidnapped the Ponchin Lama and no one ever heard from him again. I assume they were keeping him alive somewhere as long as possible so that when Tibet announced the new Ponchin Lama China would bring out the old one and be like "haha your entire religion is bullshit"

Anyway, he's been replaced already but they had gone without him for years, with the Dalai Lama doing his duties in the meanwhile.

If the danger of religion is that it can turn humans against each other in ways that result in murder, what makes religion that much different from an authoritarian government?
