Tried Trigun, didn't like it - the hype turned me off. BvS? Hated it, but I tried to be moderate about it until fanboys and trolls shit the bed and made it out like the best superhero movie of the year - now I can't bother pretending like I can be constructive about it. The point I'm making is that I have a history of being That Guy, who nitpicks and is generally just an annoying asshole when it comes to stuff that is rated particularly highly. And when I sat down to watch Cowboy Bebop, that shit was rated very highly - best English dub ever, one of the greatest anime of all time etc. I knew that if I didn't like it in three episodes, I was gonna stop watching and just let it sit popularity run its course with no more input or insight from me - better to say you didn't get into it and move on than to watch something you hate and then talk shit about it for the rest of your life, y'know? So I went in with a reasonable worldview, cautiously optimistic. As someone who has been that kind of asshole in the past, the kind of person that hates when something decent or even particularly good is overhyped to death by fanboy morons? Cowboy Bebop was fucking great. It absolutely lived up to the hype from the first episode, and I don't say that lightly. It legit is one of the greats, and it holds up ridiculously well. --- I still hear trains at night, when the wind is right. And Jet as a character was so boring. That one dude with the horse was amazing though. Best side character. There are very few shows in Anime where there is any argument for the Dub being better than the original. The Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star dubs are without a doubt the best versions of the medium.
