Hospitalized for a fucking UTI.

Meanwhile when Im sick and in pain, she constantly bitches that Im faking it for attention. I literally heard this woman cry to our mom about how much pain shes in, and how the pain killers shes taking arent immediately working. But now I have to drop every single one of my plans to drive an hour to the hospital shes in.

Meanwhile shes NEVER done anything like that for me.

Hearing people talk about their non-combative relationships with their family always makes me feel like I missed out on a vital part of growing up.

And then when I DARE to get sick, and slightly inconvenience her by, like, dropping off my niece at daycare at 8:15 instead of 8:00 (her educational program starts at 9) then Im the bad guy whos being unreasonable and irresponsible

I know how you feel, but unfortunately I live in the suburbs where public transportation is not reliable. I've been a doormat for my whole life and I just knew as soon as I get a car, I'd be getting requests from everyone and like an idiot, I'd say yes every time. But over the past year, I've been learning to put myself first or at least demand gas money if I have to go far out of my way. Or just lie and say I'm busy. You don't want to get sucked into making everyone else's problems your own.

Yeah, this lifestyle does require a bit of strategical choice of where you're going to live, otherwise you're screwed.

I don't go to the hospital unless the person is having major surgery or in critical condition or something like that. A simple UTI? Screw that, I'm not going out of my way to visit you in the hospital for a simple UTI. Heck, you're not even staying in the hospital overnight, so who cares.

And she wants you to drive an hour to pick her up? Make her get an Uber or have her get a ride from a friend who lives closer. That's ridiculous to drive so far to pick someone up.

opportunity cost

It's still likely cheaper than driving an hour yourself (actually two hours roundtrip since you need to get back home yourself). Plus the time wasted during those two hours when you could be doing something else.

Mhmm! There is absolutely no need for you to do anything for her if she doesn't properly reciprocate, even if it comes to family. If my brother treated me like shit, you can damn well bet I'd leave his ass on the side of the road. How else is he going to learn how to have a normal interaction with anyone where there is any kind of reciprocating dynamic. You're ultimately hurting her by enabling that kind of behavior. She needs to grow up.
