so he was talking to other co-workers about the organization he is with to have as many, young healthy people specifically, volunteer to be organ donors when they get their driver's license / IDs. i think it was mainly about awareness of the organ donator status and to persuade how useful and life saving it can be to old people like him, whatever. so then im walking by as he is asking if my co-workers are donors and of course they are and then he turns to me asks and i say no i'm not. he is a bit surprised, asks why and if its because of religious reasons and im like thinking wtf u asking that for the convo should have ended when i said no. i said a moment later that im not comfortable talking about it and he's like put off by it and goes away.

so im thinking that there should be no implied shame in opting out of organ donor status. that old guy can fuck off.

If the guy works for an organization that promotes the importance of organ donation I don't know why you'd think a conversation with him would end when you said you weren't an organ donor.

I don't think there's any shame in it but there's no good reason to voluntarily opt out either

This doesn't fly anymore, btw. Turns out a lot of HIV+ people need transplants too, and so there's a system of organ donation from positive to positive. Shortens the list significantly for non-infected patienta in need of donor organs.

For those that wonder why not donate or say that non donors should be at the bottom. Sadly that is not how the world works.

There is 2 people in an accident: 1 donor and 1 non donor.
