I seriously can't even handle this anymore. 11/10 on the pain scale, I feel like jumping off a bridge. Been screaming and writhing for hours. No meds have worked. Thrown up from the pain. Like an ice pick through my eye and into the back of my head. Comes in waves then subsides.

So a migraine? Yeah I think that's a legitimate reason to go.

If you dont treat a migraine after a certain amount of time it could get way way worse. Wife had to be admitted for two days and given meds to break the cycle

You need to take at least 12 paracetamol tablets right away, judging from your described symptoms

Yeah, but you'll be low priority and it'll probably take a few hours before you're moved to the ER >_>

My concern wouldn't necessarily be the headache but rather a possible sign of something more concerning. I would go.

I go through this multiple times a year. Definitely make an appointment and get checked out if you can.

Also do you regularly have toothaches as well?

Exactly. Headaches are often benign. Migraines and cluster headaches are certainly debilitating experiences. But when people use phrases like "worst headache of my life" that tends to raise alarm bells in most clinicians, especially in conjunction with other concerning signs or symptoms. The value of the hospital here is to rule out the less likely, but potentially very serious conditions. At the very least, there would be treatment to acutely abort what sounds like a pretty terrible headache. But a more migranous or cluster-like picture would certainly benefit more from regular follow up and preventative measures.

Wasnt there a guy on here remarking he was working the ER, feeling burnt out, and bumping people down for what he percieved as minor discomforts?

Yes
It was kinda fucked up. People called them out on it and pointed out that sometimes a headache is the first sign of a deadly condition. They didn't care

That's kind of disingenuous. I remember that poster and they clearly mentioned it was a patient with a documented history of going to the ED for the same type of symptoms with a documented history of the same.

Even a burnt out provider will see view headaches as potentially deadly and work them up with the proper diligence (depending on history and findings). It's the repeated visits for previously diagnosed benign conditions that are much better managed with regular outpatient follow up than ED visits every time it gets bad enough.

Those are two entirely different pictures and your discontent with their expression of burn-out is largely the problem of why clinicians are so burned out in the first place. They're expected to be super humans with no emotions who work without rest. We're expected to not have our own humanity and it's clearly evidenced by the fact that they merely expressed an emotion that didn't necessarily reflect the quality of the care still provided and CE still shit on them.

I went to the hosptial once for the same exact thing. It turned out to be a sinus infection, that likely would not have gone away on its own. They gave me painkillers and antibiotics to treat it.

Go to the hospital. Any time you are feeling 11/10 pain is probably an indication that something is very wrong.

If it causes suicidal thoughts from how badly it affects or is so severe that you cannot function(particularly if its accompanied by other symptoms) than yes absolutely.

It can be indicative of other problems or imminent problems like a brain tumor, stroke, a severe infection etc. and even if its not once it hits a certain level of suffering something has to be done.

Ok, might go when my GF gets off work. The pain went down a bit ago, but I just puked and it came surging back. The only thing I'm worried about is that it's almost 8 and I take my Seroquel by 10 most nights. They can give it to me at the hospital, but last time I went in after taking it they rushed me to the EKG room because my heartrate was 176. Idk what it is about Seroquel, but if I'm awake on it my heart races like crazy.

Do you puke out of fucking nowhere, or do you have nausea first?

I would probably recommend an urgent care place if it's a headache unless you think there's some other underlying issue that requires immediate treatment or you could literally die.

I'm not saying don't go to the ER though :\

Went to bed and it went away. Still going to make a dr.s appointment to get it checked out though. And Seroquel only makes my heart race if I'm kept awake on it. I'm prescribed it for sleep anyway so I take it right before bed. Overall it's not so bad.

Sleeping pills freak me out. I bought a pack of OTC pills before. Didn't know how my body would take it so I took half a dose, and I felt my heart rate slow down and I became very lethargic but didn't fall asleep. Felt freaaaky
