I want to work as an animator. I've taken classes for it but it's been a while and I forgot how to use the software. However, I'm reading a book on it to get me back on track.

But damn, it sucks. I have to wait a while in order for my skills to be good and then see if I can land a job as an animator.

For now I have to keep looking for a retail job or something. I haven't found luck with that yet. I applied to every major place around here and nope, they don't even call me. The reason I want a job nearby is because I really, really hate driving. But now I pretty much have no choice and will have to drive a bit more.

Anyways, this year I've applied to like 6 or 7 places. Only got interviewed twice. One of those interviews happened today and the manager said he'd call me back if he needed me, but nope. That's why I made this topic.

So use your time efficiently. Don't be like me. I also think sleep apnea and depression got in the way for me. So if you have either of those things, get it treated.

I did a little bit of animation today just for fun and wow, I haven't forgotten as much as I thought. But as a beginner, I'm nowhere near ready to be looking for a job or anything.

I'll probably whip something up and ask people to critique it.

WTF

It is September, and you have only applied to 6-7 places in the entire year? That's less than one per month. You're not trying hard enough to get a job. You're not trying nearly hard enough. You should be applying to 6-7 places per week if you really want to get a job sometime this decade.

You certainly have not applied to "every major place" if you have only applied to 6-7 places. Job hunting is a full time job in itself. If you aren't spending many hours per day looking for a job, then you're not trying hard enough.

Job hunting is a pure numbers game. Send out 100 resumes, and you will get maybe 10 interviews out of that. Out of those 10 interviews, you will get maybe 2-3 job offers.

Also, if you want to be an animator, then you should be looking to get an internship in animation. You shouldn't be looking for a retail job. You don't need the skills for an internship. You learn the skills while doing the internship. The internship will also help you find a full time job in animation later. People who go to college and get a degree but never do an internship can have a hard time finding a job because while they may have a degree, they don't have the practical experience from working in the field through an internship. So don't get a retail job. Get an internship instead.

You hate driving so you want a job close to you? Well, you do realize that you aren't likely to find an animation job near you, right? You also really just need to get over your fear. The only way to succeed in life is by getting out of your comfort zone, and for you that likely means getting over your fear of driving. People who don't get out of their comfort zone will never be successful. These are the people who end up working shitty retail jobs their entire lives.

Per week? He's looking for low-end work, so he should be applying to 6-7 per day. When it comes to shit jobs, there usually are countless openings because somebody is getting fired for no-showing, theft, drug/alcohol abuse, or general dumbfuckery.

Accounting is a good career, but some people mistakenly think that all accountants make a lot of money. There are some who make $30k. I personally started at $35k and am now making $44k. I also get quarterly bonuses too, but still I'm not wealthy by any means.

Accounting is a career that will always be in high demand because every single company needs accountants to crunch their numbers. That's not to say you can't get laid off in times of recession, but it does have more job security than most other careers.

Majoring in Accounting is quite difficult and not for everybody. It's easily the most difficult of the Business majors. You really need to have a knack for it to do well. Otherwise you won't like it, and it will be a constant struggle. There are many people who take the Accounting 101 class and are completely lost and don't understand it at all. Then there are others like me who found the class to be very very easy. The intermediate Accounting classes are brutal and a huge step up in difficulty. Even if you find the 101 class easy, you will have a hard time with the intermediate classes. If you found the 101 class difficult, then you will die in intermediate and drop out and switch majors. It sounds funny, but that is truthfully pretty much what happens.

Also, keep in mind that getting the CPA requires more than just the Bachelor's degree. Most states require you to have 150 credit hours, which is 30 more than the traditional Bachelor degree. The CPA exam is also crazy hard. It has something like a 30% pass rate. Most people have to take it multiple times to pass. I have heard stories of some people taking 5 or more attempts at it before finally passing. I am actually not a CPA. I took took one attempt at it, and I decided it wasn't for me. You can be an accountant without the CPA, but a lot of the higher-end accounting jobs will require it.

TTG is definitely a style choice rather than a quality issue and doesn't even look close to bad. People just prefer the older series which, by the way, also had its share of style choices and arguable quality issues. Stuff that actually takes no skill is more along the lines of South Park where most of the board can passably draw in that style despite having little or no artistic training.
