The series has been downhill after 9, and its pretty much at rock bottom. They need to go back to their roots of turn based roleplaying. We dont care if the graphics arent mind bogglingly better than the previous entry because thats really not the focus of the game. Theyve tried something different for years and their recent entry was just appalling.

From this point forward, all online titles should be released as stand-alone titles, and should never be in the numbered series. Tactics was one of the greatest games of all time and it was (correctly) set aside from the series.

We dont want online, we dont want real time, we dont want action (especially if you forgot how to make them since Kingdom Hearts came out). Just give us something with turn based combat, with an actual story (unlike FF15) and interesting characters. Those things should be the top priorities and then focus on wasting money on cgi.

Tbh, the graphics in FF15 were pretty forgettable.

I agree, but its competition, within the series, was FF12, which is one of the worst games theyve made. Along with FF11, which was online, ten was the only playable game from this series on PS2.

Im not saying its a bad game, or that its not a good game. It just failed to capture the same magic that the PS1 era titles achieved. It was when they abandoned gameplay for graphics and cutscenes.

They will never do this. If you want traditional JRPG in 2018, you turn to Dragon Quest.

I'm more curious to see how soon it'll actually happen. A potential FF16 could still be like 5 or more years away with how SE have been handling their pinnacle franchises in recent times.

It's insane to think they made three of the best (and for the time cutting-edge) titles in a single generation back in the PSX days.

EDIT: I wonder if bringing back pre-rendered backgrounds could work? Would that actually cut development time or would it be even more difficult considering they'd have to be designed for high-definitions now?

PS2 had a great library though. I mean overall, not just vs other Final Fantasy titles.

Anyways, I mean I had fun with the gameplay of 10. It's the minigames that weren't that great.

I never got to play the PS1 FFs. I want to get into 7 soon and see why it's hailed as the best ever. FFs I played: 4, 6, 10 (my first one), 13 (I didn't have as bad an opinion as everyone else idk why though), Crystal Chronicles. I'm probably going to try 12 when it comes to Switch and I never played X-2 even though it's in my Steam library.

I mean Square could be pulling their heads out of their asses on this one. Not that I expect FF to go back to the way it used to be... but Octopath was a huge success and now they're porting over some of the bigger FF games to Switch... maybe they realize the market for those games isn't gone. I don't hate on the new style of FF game but I don't get why they can't do both.

I agree about ten being fun, but the mini games sucked. Keep an open mind playing 7, 8, and 9 because part of their lasting impact was the massive step up. I still think they aged well, especially compared to this new crap.

Im thinking of trying 12 if it comes to switch, but only if its discounted. No way Im paying $60 for it. X2 is just an insult to the fans. I couldnt make it past the intro scene and I only had it because it was included with X. They know thats the only way to sell it.

I agree. Im cautiously optimistic. They actually issued a public apology and admitted that they didnt think western people would buy it. Money talks and these developers might be listening (finally).
