On the one hand, Vivi is actually a good FFIX character and knocking Zidane down as far as possible down the hierarchy is good

Cuz he won too recently, and became the first repeat champion at that. Look I can go into detail on why you can have too much of a good thing, but the reasoning should be obvious to anyone who has ever played a contest on Board 8 before.

That's a noble goal. I can respect it; I just can't assist it in any way. That's got little to do with Vivi's recent victory, I just feel like IX already does too well on the whole. *shrugs* I wish you luck though, and congratulations again.

I like the order it's in right now, personally speaking. I think they're easily the three best IX characters and Vivi/Zidane are relatively close to one another in my book at least.

And yeah, if my favorite was popular enough to win let alone do it twice, I might still make sure they have a credible finish but I'd likely try to support my next in line favorite that hadn't won twice already. Everyone's different when it comes to that I guess, I just don't like continuously pushing the same character if that character has a history of doing exceedingly well.

Well, stats are a thing because... they became a thing. And even if champs were retired there'd still be stats, albeit not as meaningful.

When I posted that, I was thinking about the "hottest babes on tv" contest that runs every year across the television boards, and the champ is retired each time so there's always a new champ - and after the contest there's a battle royale of all the champs. They just finished their 8th edition and it seems to work out pretty well, but maybe the supply of babes on tv (the one rule being they were on a tv show that year) is a bit different than FF characters mainly from, like, 10+ years ago. Besides the glorious XIII crew, for the most part.

There's also more of a metagame associated with this contest versus that one, too and being a save my rather than just a bracketed poll contest, yeah I can see the reason champs are in. Just what came to mind in that moment.

You can also play a fun game of guessing who would've gotten in instead of the what, 16 champs that were in this contest (17 in the alternate universe where Locke wins instead of Vivi's 2nd win)..!!!

I saw Lightning's stats, this could easily be her year. I'm surprised she's done so well, I thought people didn't like her... I can see myself supporting her deeper into the contest to get her that win.

Full disclosure: I think I genuinely liked Lightning Returns and I look back on it fondly, I don't know how many others feel that way...

If Lightning was gonna win she would have won already, frankly. If I were a huge Lightning supporter I'd be pretty sad because I'd know her best days are behind her now. Without voltch and the army, there's no real way I can see Lightning winning now.

While this year of XIII thing will help characters that have long been shafted by this contest like Snow and Sazh, I really think the stronger characters statistically (Lightning and Hope) have seen their peaks.

Both FFXIII and Lightning Returns are in my top 25 favorite games (XIII is appropriately my 13th favorite). LR is a super unique game with all the time management and that rewarding combat system. Lightning really came into her own as a character in that game too. She was great in XIII but LR is why she's my favorite.

While I'm talking about the trilogy, XIII-2 was kind of bad.

Isn't it funny that some of the people in both these incidents voted for her opponent to spite me? :D...

Maybe that's not so good. In Marche's case, that was definitely misguided (and I really have only heard Ulti claim he voted due to me, so that could be a farse) since I actually liked Marche and voted for him myself, pre-fad. It's amazing though... I feel like if it was me accusing someone of cheating as Bane did to Genny, I'd be lambasted and the entire contest would turn into pushing something to annoy me. But for someone else? It's largely ignored and no one even bats an eye. Some things will never change.
