Heihachi Mishima has challenged Golbez to a fight! Location of the fight: XCOM Headquarters - An underground command center, attached to a Mech Bay and Forward Access Tunnel, as seen during the Alien base defense mission in XCOM, although the base is in pristine shape, instead of damaged. Attackers will start by the entrance, with defenders starting at the command center.. Which side will win?

Guidelines

- The fight will occur in real-time (like an FMV sequence). Gameplay mechanics are less important than how the characters would function in a real-time environment.
- The members of each team are ideal teammates capable of a pre-selected plan of battle.
- "Broken" refers to a lot of things, including insta-death, auto-effects, a variety of status effects (e.g., Imp, Silence, Stop, *not* Poison), and revival. Unless stated otherwise, nobody has them, though do use your own discretion.
- There may be SPOILERS from all of the games the characters are from.

Heihachi Mishima is as he appears in Tekken 7: Fated Retribution, with access to all of his moves seen therein and all feats and abilities displayed in that game and previous Tekken titles. He may enter Rage multiple times per match, and has access to both his Rage Arts and Rage Drives as appropriate.

Golbez is as he appears in Final Fantasy IV. He has access to all of his spells and techniques from both FFIV and The After Years, including Barrier Shift. He may not use Binding Cold or summon the Shadow Dragon.

Tossup, it depends on where they happen to find each other. Golbez probably wins if they find each other in an area where he can nuke him from afar (like if he's up on one of the balconies in the main room and Heihachi is below). Heihachi wins if they're on the same level and he can just beat the shit out of him

I lean a little towards Heihachi because the dude is stupid tanky. Like he was legit beating up Devil Kazuya until the latter got a surprise second wind and he was soaking the blows and not flinching. I feel he could take several spells from Golbez, catch up and still have enough gas left in the tank to win a close up fight. Then again, Golbez is no joke either, so it's not a slam-dunk.

tanking feats he catches a bullet in his mouth, survives being thrown off cliffs, fighting in hot lava, multiple assassination attempts, multiple bombings

the dude just cant die and thus far he has no demon gene or transformation. Jinpachi had some type of demon thing, but it skipped Heihachi (I thought it was Jinpachi who passed on the devil gene to kazyua but it turns out it was wifeachi)

After Years also gives Golbez Pressure, a short cast spell that paralyzes an opponent. He probably auto-wins if that works, but I don't remember if it has a failure rate or anything

Golbez is a final fantasy boss (and in the sequel to FF4, party member). He's your big enemy across the game and consistently manhandles the 4-5 dude FF4 party throughout - a notable example is when the mighty sage Tellah is driven to such an extreme of desperation by Golbez's strength (as several magical attacks by him fail to put any dent on Golbez) that he casts the forbidden spell, Meteo - and this doesn't kill Golbez, only wounds him, at cost of Tellah's life. Like I said, I'm not an expert on him (save_us.lopen) but he's a very highly skilled spellcaster and quite proficient melee fighter, on top of being tanky. He's probably the most quintessential jack of all trades among the 4/weeks of M4, except he's more like a 'great of all trades' except buffs/heals.

I think Heihachi is tankier than him, but Heihachi doesn't have a whole lot going on offensively beyond melee attacks, whereas Golbez' magic and range could be a big help

It really depends on if you think Heihachi would use the super abundant cover the terrain offers. Like XCOM is a game built on moving from defensible spot to defensible spot - the defensive terrain needed is there. Would he rely on it though?

That was my initial thought, but at the same time, I know he tends to be compared to Akuma a lot in terms of power, though I suppose that's closer to Akuma with his transformation, which is a limited ability anyway.

I mean I respect Jin enough to be a 6 but I'm not sure who all would.

y'know, that's a fair point. Heihachi has no intrinsic range, but he CAN hulk smash stuff and chuck it at Golbez. Wonder if that would buy him a chance to approach or not?

but yeah I feel like in this fight Heihachi is going to be weak if Golbez is a mage. Similiar to how all low tiers basically die to guns, I feel like magic H can only tolerate so much. He isnt steamrolled by any means, but the war of attrition he loses.

Heihachi DOES have electrical properties and attacks though, So I would say he would be elec resistant

Interestingly, I think Heihachi makes no differences in how much damage he can take between magic and physical damage. He tanked a Shun Goku Satsu after all, and that's a move meant to instakill you with a soul strike combo. Like if that doesn't make you keel over easily, nothing will, ya know?

Like IIRC hadokens hit like physical blows so not that, but the SGS is explicitly not a beatdown per se, it's some mystical bullshit where demons eat your soul and it hurts more and more the more of a sinner you are

I feel like Golbez wins this easily with his extreme magical prowess. Golbez is ridiculous - hes not QUITE the magician Kefka is but he's not a glass cannon - he's a fucking mobile fortress.

He's exactly the sort of character that can abuse the fuck out of a 1 trick pony like Heihachi.

Does Heihachi have any cutscene feat of closing the distance? If he's in, he's in. That Tekken 7 elevator scene where he uses steel doors as armor and projectiles is absolutely nuts, but I don't remember if he's got any Dragon Rush lunge he ever does. 'Cuz otherwise, I feel Golbez is just gonna play the keepaway stun game. Or just "hit him with Bio, run away, haha watch this old man die". Since I totally buy Golbez doing a last-minute gambit like that if he seems at all disadvantaged.

I dunno why I'm being summoned to explain him you did a pretty good job. Think Golbez probably wins it pretty easily the more I think about it. Dude is a tank and while I'd call his melee prowess fairly middling (the extent of his physical hype is basically a decent physical attack and the ability to use a lot of melee weapons, maybe an attack or two in Dissidia) and well below the level of Heihachi, it's going to be passable enough that he'll be able to create some openings in a drawn out match to hit some of his stronger spells since I don't think Heihachi has the type of offense needed to bring him down efficiently, nor does he have the speed to try to make a claim that he totally blitzes him.

I honestly could see Golbez viably cheesing Heihachi with rapid casts of Drain. This is actually his method of fighting in his first boss fight in FFIV DS so it's not even a meta strategy.

I don't really think Heihachi would necessarily get him on the first barrage either even if he closed in. Golbez is actually tanky as shit to take a whaling from the entire FF4 party, treating Tellah's Meteo as a mild inconvenience, etc

the one thing he does have is the "catch a bullet in his teeth thing" which at least proves his reaction speed, though that doesn't necessarily translate to distance closing speed
