I was not expecting what I watched when putting this on. I was really creeped out after the movie.

If you haven't seen this movie its in Netflix right now, it's about a girl who finds a hidden doorway to another dimension where the people there have sowed buttons on over their eyes. I might just give this another watch today, it's rated pg man.

Yeah, that movie was scary shit. The bits with the buttons for eyes was horrible. It's great when the shadow of the button covers the moon (I think).

Overall, though, fairly average film. Could've moved a bit faster, or had more locations.

I remember the ending to a commercial or trailer being pretty creepy. It's just a shot of the gift box with the buttons, needle and thread inside. The implication of that got me right away back when it was new.

Only saw it earlier this year actually. Liked it quite a bit. I'd say it's one of those perfect scary, darker tone movies for kids where it doesn't cross the line, but just gives that horror feeling. Wish I watched it when I was a kid, but looking back I was actually 19 when it came out? Damn.

I understand it doesn't cross any borders as far as being "really scary" but I thought the whole innocence behind it being that way made it even scarier, as an adult I was pretty freaked out after it. Scary children's movies > scary adult movies, at least for adults it seems to be. Fuck the blood and guts and shock horror, nothing better than a creepy innocent story.

I agree with you. Most horror movies use gore and jumpscares as crutches and the over the top nature of them does nothing for me. So when the threat isn't as in your face direct it lets your mind do the work which will almost always be scarier. Something like the Witch is both refreshing to me and way more effective because it doesn't beat you over the head with cliches.

On top of that the stop motion adds a level of creepy to it. First off the movements and feeling are kinda uncanny valley, but at the same time most of the stop motion stuff I've seen before were like Wallace and Gromit or Nightmare Before Christmas. So it's taking a primarily viewed kids setting and adding the horror element to it which gives off a somewhat uncomfortable vibe.

There are a few things in that movie that are pretty damn effective. Just the thought of actually sewing buttons over someone's eyes with the needle piercing the eyeball would be good stuff in any adult horror or slasher flick. We never see it happen, but the thought of it is there. There's also the scene with the other Wyborn's mouth sown into a big grin until Coraline undoes it. Add in the good music, especially the opening credits and you got a real solid movie that sticks with you.
