I love this game a lot but holy cow, how did they ship out some of these rpg stats and think that it was fine lol. Here's some examples.

-Bowser is supposed to be the powerhouse of the party. He starts out with very high attack and defense, but for some reason, his growth rates are complete garbage. So what ends up happening is by the end of the game when everyone is max level, he has the 2nd lowest attack stat of the whole party (even Peach has a higher attack stat than him LMAO) and every other stat is the lowest in the group except for HP. Plus all his special moves are complete trash and all his weapons have garbage stats and doesn't increase him in any meaningful way. (everyone's ultimate weapon has +70 to +90 attack, but Bowser's ultimate weapon is +40...)

-The very first town you visit has a full revive item for 5 coins, while later in the game, a full-HP item that can only be used on a living person costs 39 coins. So it just encourages you to stock up on the full revives and let everyone fight until they die, and then just instantly revive them at full health >_>

-Special moves and magic are fucked in the late part of the game. Characters have an Attack stat for normal attacks and Special Attack stat for special moves. There is tons and tons of equipment that raises the attack stat but only like 1 or 2 that raise the special stat. So by the end of the game, some "super powerful" special move can end up actually doing less damage than a normal attack. So pretty much the only special moves you'll ever use again are ones that hit multiple enemies or heal everyone.

-There's an item called the Super Suit that is the best armor in the game, but the only way to get it is to do 100 super jumps in a row without failing. You know what the timing window of that is in this 60fps game? 2 FUCKING FRAME WINDOW, 100 times in a row. Literally who thought that was a good idea!?

-The Lazy shell armor is completely broken >_> It literally makes every attack only do 1 damage to you. So if you want to completely autopilot this game and defeat everyone, even the hidden super boss, just stick it on Peach and have her group heal/revive everyone while they just kamikaze themselves into enemies over and over again.

But besides all that, i love this game. It's fun, even if it is kinda easy >_>

Yeah, she's pretty broken. Has insane healing for almost no MP cost and has a very high attack stat. She breaks the game even without the lazy shell

Don't forget about Mario's basic Jump getting stronger every time you use it.
Or timed Geno Boost making everything even more laughable.

And yeah, as Tappor said, Peach in general bends the game over even more.

He really does. Has the highest speed, the highest attack, and the 2nd highest defense. LITERALLY has a special move that increases your attack and defense stat by 50% for the rest of the battle. No wonder he's going to be in Smash Ultimate

True, but having some semblance of challenge does, and SMRPG only has one boss that can actually cause any trouble if you never time anything right ever, and even he's kind of a pushover if you're keeping your equips up to date. Granted, SMRPG is literally an entry level RPG so I guess it's to be expected. Just kind of a shame that they put so much thought into some of the mechanics and none of them are even worth using because of the other blatantly OP shit that got casually tossed in.

This is to represent how bowser is the big bad dude in the begining of mario games but by the end he is always weaker than mario. Its great imo

Oh hell yeah! the game is a ton of fun and has a buttload of charm to it. I'm just saying that it's really fucking easy when you're familiar with the nuances of the party members and items >_> Your first time through, there will probably still be some hard parts that may surprise you like Yardiovich and Smilax.

- Smithy is fairly uninteresting (killer theme though)
- Bowser is the weakest party member

Other than that, it's practically perfect.

put lazy shell armor on peach and the game is impossible to lose, your pocket healer is indestructible

And, yes, the game is easy enough that you can still solo with Bowser if you have the drill claw. It's just fundamentally wrong that he's the weakest.

I always wonder why final bosses are so frequently less interesting than the regular bosses. Is it because they create the bosses in sequential order and are out of imagination by that point? Or is it because they fall back on convention? The last guy has to be an overlord or an evil witch. They can't be something outrageous like the difficult mid-game boss.

I still use him because 1) I like Bowser and 2) being the "weakest party member" doesn't really matter in this game.

I still use him when I replay the game. Even though he's weak, the game is still easy >_> Plus that one weapon that lets him pick up Mario and throw him at enemies never gets old. He's such a fun character in the game.

If you get good RNG while lazy shelling his wizard form, you can deal like 600+ damage to him >_> It's ridic.

I haven't played any others. Super Paper Mario is also good, but it's way different from the others

why is that supposed to be interesting? lol, I'm not trying to be an ass or anything but the whole weapon-theme gimmick just didn't capture me at all.

and the reference to the power rangers isn't even very good.

like I say whenever I talk about this game, though, it's very likely my opinions would differ if I hadn't played Paper Mario long before SMRPG. IMHO, Paper Mario just does a much, much better job of integrating the story into the Mario universe. SMRPG feels way too much like a Square RPG with a mario theme just pasted on to me, only it lacks the things that make Square RPGs worth playing (some kind of challenge, some kind of interesting story or characters)

its not an awful game I just found it very underwhelming jmo though

He was the strongest character in the game attack-wise which meant that most people probably used him.

He had really flashy moves which contributed to his coolness

He had a somewhat interesting character design
