Didn't this come out on PS2, Xbox and GameCube? Dreamcast. I specifically remember this because I got a Dreamcast like a year after it already was out. (edit) Dreamcast came out in 98. Yes it's an example of new 3D aging poorly but it's fun and charming....despite the cruise control attacks where you don't have to aim at all. This is one of those games that I'll replay occasionally for the rest of my life. ... Copied to Clipboard!

While not one of the better looking Dreamcast games it definitely looked well above OoT.

Sonic Adventure 2 has a few good early Sonic/Shadow levels and the rest of it is absolutely terrible.
The treasure hunt levels are worse. The mech shooting segments are worse. There's no hub stuff anymore so it feels even less ambitious. SA2 was when the story got worse and introduced Shadow the Hedgehog who is an awful, awful character. The only thing SA2 does better is that it has no fishing segments. Sonic's downfall started with SA1 but SA2 was the one that set really the shitty precedent for Sonic. I'm not saying the hubs in SA1 were good. But they could have been improved or streamlined. Plenty of platformers manage hubs fine.
They at least gave SA1 a sense of an actual adventure since you were actually travelling between the locations and you could return to areas you've previously been to. SA2 never had a sense of place and the levels weren't really cohesive with each other. Which wouldn't matter if it didn't attempt to link them with a story. --- Kind Regards, Darmik ... I liked SA1 despite its weirdness.

I played SA2 on Gamecube having never owned a dream cast.... I loved it. It's admittedly not aged well having replayed it recently on xbox. But it's still decent and the story is pretty good, it works and actually has some feeling to it. Something sonic games haven't achieved since.
It's Also arguably one of the few 3d sonic games that isn't broken horribly I could never seem to make myself play SA1 for some reason ... Copied to Clipboard!
