The important difference from your option 1 is the space after the parenthesis.

Also this doesn't extend to languages where the begin / end is more than just one symbol. Eg, in Pascal:

procedure window.onload;
begin
// code here
end;

Option 2 drives me nuts. Those brackets look almost exactly the same, why would you needlessly clutter up the code with extra lines of that shit? Egyptian style is the only way serious programmers use.

C++

Why not?

It's a very difficult and hard to learn language that deals with manual memory allocation and management. It is not appropriate technology to "work on your programming"

There was a time when that's all there was but things are better now and we have better alternatives. We even have a better alternative for C++ called Rust which does basically everything C++ does but also does things like enforce memory scope at compile time.

I wouldn't say c++ is the best language. It's great for managing memory but most languages garbage collectors will do just fine for most programs and memory is not that big of a deal.

Start with C++ if you want. Loads of people have done that and turned out just fine. It can be rough for a while depending on what kind of person you are, like what piques your interest. If you want to see a moving object on the screen really quickly, C++ will be tedious. If you just want to learn more about algorithms and data structures, C++ can be great. If you're actually into stuff like manual memory management and being somewhat close to the hardware, C and C++ are right up your alley. It's not outdated in any way, and to imply that Rust is a perfect replacement is a laughable farce.
Personally I like D though

Rust also has smart pointers.

Your point? Rust is still relatively obscure. C++ has a huge community, and it being a superset of C is a big deal. I don't love the language, but it's still, what, top 4 on the Tiobe index? Rust isn't top 30. Saying that C++ is outdated is dead wrong, and the wealth of tolls, libs etc compared to Rust is barely even comparable. Not to mention it makes you a lot more employable. It's objectively a very useful language, and very in style. Probably will be for a long time still.

Isn't the python the one that's intentionally hard-assed about indentation?

Really? That's cool. Several months ago I was looking for how to do something on a webpage and StackOverflow kept recommending the framework of the week. I didn't want to add 50 MB of JavaScript dependencies and I eventually found the function I was looking for in vanilla JavaScript.
