Well, if your doc said you won't die just go through the treatment and get it done. Did they say if it makes you at a higher risk for any other cancers in the future or what the recurrence rate may be?

No but like, what else would he say? He doesn't know if this will kill me. Of course he'll try to give me piece of mind. I just hope I can make it to the end of next year...

Because he literally created an account specifically to troll me about a relative with cancer and he likes to constantly rub in the fact that he found a clever way to get away with his mean-spirited mischief and then, to really twist that knife, claim that I was somehow the insensitive one.

I think he means that you probably won't die from this, not that you won't die someday from something else. If it was more serious, they'd almost certainly upfront about it.

If you get a paper cut you could theoretically die from it if the right scenarios played out. So when you run to the doctor and ask if you're going to die from the paper cut and he says you aren't going to die, he doesn't know that, but he can infer that the probability of you dying is minimal to the point of being able to say you shouldn't worry about dying.

If you have something terminal you're going to die from it and there is nothing you can do about it. But for anything else your attitude plays a large factor into your recovery.

If you had a form of cancer that has a low chance of survival your doctor should of informed you of such. Since he didn't you should trust his judgment and stay positive about the situation. There's nothing to gain from a negative attitude where you assume you're going to potentially die.

I think he means the chance of dying is very low. So low that you shouldn't worry about it if you get the correct treatments done. He's obviously not a psychic, but I don't think doctor will lie to you about something like this...

No. Any tests you've had done will point to what type of cancer it is, if it could spread and if it's fatal. Doctors while reassuring the best they can won't dance around the facts. Although tests are sometimes wrong as are Doctors I'd take his word for it. You can always get a second opinion if you don't. The most important thing however is you get rid of said cancer.

But, as others have mentioned, it's always good to get a second opinion.

There are often two responses from when you tell people you have cancer:

#1 is "Don't look up anything about it online because it often gives you the worst case scenario"

and

#2 "I looked it up online and you are going to die"

I never said any of those to my sister simply because hers was terminal. Outside of being diagnosed with terminal cancer or any other illness for that matter the first response is the correct one. I mean I could drive myself crazy if I googled all the symptoms I have due to anxiety and no doubt some will come back with "you could die!". At the end of the day I see no point in wondering "what if?".

If you can get cut out with 'healthy margins', you're looking at the 'live to eighty' scenario. If it's stage 3 or 4, significantly less so.

That sucks, man. If it makes you feel any better, I had malignant cancer in my liver back in 1994 (a tumor the size of a grapefruit). I was a St. Jude patient, and they had to cut out 2/3 of my liver, my appendix, and my gall bladder in an 11-hour procedure, followed by 8 months of intense chemo...

...but it worked! I made it. I hope you can make it too!

Cancer is a bitch man, hang in there. I got treated for eye cancer last year and Ill probably go blind in the affected eye eventually due to radiation damage. Ill have to have MRIs and X-rays of my organs for the rest of my life too, to make sure it hasnt spread.

Hopefully you have a really good oncologist or have access to one of the top cancer treatment centers. Glad you have good insurance though, mine is terrible and its been pretty draining financially. Especially the MRIs, they run me about $2k every six months.

I know most people in these parts are very negative towards religion in general, but when I was diagnosed with one month to live under my liver cancer, the whole Jesus / Heaven / Faith concept really helped me through. Of course, nobody can ever PROVE any religion, but "hope" is a very valuable thing (especially when YOU are enduring the actual suffering, on death's door.)

Yeah, that was at Egleston Children's Hospital at Emory University in Atlanta, back in 1994.

We ended up going to St. Jude, and after some experimental procedures, major surgery, and about 8 months of intense chemo, I made it through. Hopefully TC will make it through as well!
