My package just went up this month and my bill is $196.00. Cable on just one tv.

Before I had been at $160 which is already too damn much.

So now I'm calling and they're offering me a package with all the channels and Starz with a 2 year contract and my total bill will be $170.

I'm like so now I'm under a contract and I still have to pay more than I was?

Tell them their competition offered you a better number. Not like their going to call them anyways.

They get you with cable box rental. Buy your own cable box, and your bill will go down by 40-50 bucks.

This - I've had to tell them I was outright thinking of cancelling (in a polite tone), that the prices were just too high, and they transfer you to a "retention" department.

Nope she didn't offer anything. I told her I'm gonna have to look into if Dish or Directv would be a better option for me and she's just like ok let us know.

The final offer she gave was that my total bill would be $155 with a contract and I'd have barely any cable channels. Such a fuckin joke.

See but I try looking into other internet providers and when I put in my address, they say the service isn't available there. I could get DirecTV for cheap but could only get internet from Comcast. They said if I do internet only my bill would be $90 plus taxes.

i would go with whichever is cheaper. even if you gotta go through 3 different providers for services.
i need to cut centurylink off. could save about 36$ a month not including that phone discount for low income.

it's just a pain to switch providers though :(.

Even if you don't have other providers, it might be worth it to just call and bluff.. tell them you are canceling and "the price is too much" as the reason.

If you still need advice tomorrow Ill post itt but bout to go to bed. Work for comcast and could maybe help because theres no way you should be paying 200 a month for cable unless you fell off a promo and are on some crazy everyday pricing with a la carte premium channels... which if you are kind and not a jerk we can give 90day trials of premium channels indefinitely to save some in that regard. We do have retention but you dont have to be a wiener and say youre going to cancel just to have someone look at your account, we are repair/billing agents and it is our job to look at your package and get you what you need for the best price point we can. Also consider bundling different services like cable/internet because our promotions are discounted heavily, and contracts/agreements are big money savers as well compared to monthly, ETFs are only like 10$/mo of unused stuff so if you end up cancelling you wont be in crazy debt. Anyways Im tired but have faith because Comcast has recognized its shitty image over the years and theyre undergoing a massive overhaul to change that. I work with a lot of good people.

When you wake up and get the chance I need some advice too. My internet is under a 2 year contract and after 1 year the price is suppose to go up. Is there a way to keep the same price for my 2nd year or do I have to cancel?

Yeah I still need help bro! I haven't resolved anything.

I really think it is that Comcast is the ONLY provider for my address and they know it so they can do whatever they want to me.

I have ZERO premium channels but I do have the highest package of cable channels. I get El Rey Network and Destination America and shit like that, smaller networks that you need the big package for.

They're talking about downgrading me to the crappier channel package on a 2 year contract yet I'd still be paying more than I was before and I just didn't want to agree to that.

Usually when people see a jump in their bill and call in it's because they originally signed up on a killer deal but the promo fell off and they reverted to everyday pricing which is INSANELY expensive, and they just have to get put on another package. What's kind of weird to me is that new customers usually get sweet promotions and even with uncommon channels I can't wrap my mind around $160 for cable on one box lol.

That's one thing that always bothered me as both a customer in general and working there is how heavy discounts are offered to new customers but people who have been loyal longer don't get them. That being said I know that there is a suggestion being pushed upwards atm so hopefully there should be some sort of customer loyalty program in the future. If you don't have internet with comcast as well I would consider bundling because they're pretty huge on basically the more services you have (cable, int, voice, homesec) the lower your bill will be compared to if you only have one.

It's kind of difficult to get accurate numbers because we can't access packages or channel lineups at home and I can't exactly access your account either but I can say for sure that price can easily be brought down if it really is just cable on one box.

What I would suggest is to call in and say that your bill went up, you want to review your account with them, and see if they can look at different packages that keep your current level of services with a lower price point. Your bill probably has plenty of information but they can view the ledger down to specific things like government taxes/fees, they can tell you exactly where all of the charges are that add up to your current bill, they can also look back and see the monthly rate of the promo you were likely on, and they can build sample packages to be able to give you an exact number of what the cost a new package would be after taxes/prorates.

See if anything seems off when they break down your current monthly, and figure out exactly what networks you do and don't want so that you're not paying for anything you don't need. Some people are wizards with the billing system and some act like it's a foreign language so hopefully you get a wizard, or someone willing to take the time to ask one. Idk what division you're in but hopefully west because compared to east and central they kill it in ratings, CO/WA are where a lot of the internal change is coming from.

But yeah, figure out where your monthly rate is coming from, because that's insane. If you're willing to bundle another service that's also a pretty ez money saver. I personally also live in an area with no competition and it sucks. As an employee I'm eligible for courtesy services at insane discounts but I'm outside the service footprint, so I'm stuck with Rise Broadband for my internet (if you can call 8mb down internet) and directv or dish for TV.

And also just as a side note our "loyalty"/retention department sometimes has access to discount codes that we don't as general agents, but not often. If by some act of god nothing seems funky with your current monthly and they can't build you a package to your satisfaction, you are more than welcome to just ask them to transfer you to the loyalty department, you don't have to say you're cancelling or anything like that. If anything, the agents there are probably more familiar with the billing system if you didn't get lucky and get an aforementioned wizard so it couldn't hurt if you have the time.

Just be chill if you can. I obviously can't speak for everyone, a lot of agents are entry level and I'm sure not everyone is super committed, but like I said I work with a lot of good people that do what they can to help.

Nah there isn't a way to edit contracts, the way the billing system works every package that has ever existed has a code and basically it just has a timeline with set price points. Once that code is put on a customer's account it is what determines/generates the monthly bill. However you can call in and see about getting repackaged with your current services and see if they can find anything with a lower cost, getting repackaged doesn't generate early termination fees or anything, it basically just replaces your current contract with a new one (that they will get your approval for BEFORE doing, there may have been shady agents in the past but that shit don't fly around here any more). I can't promise they'll find anything since they probably offered you that agreement originally because it was a good one they had, but imo it never hurts to call in and see what you guys can work out.

Honestly when people are chill I'll throw out coupon credits like candy just because we can. Not a permanent solution or anything but getting a few $10 credits stacked up just for being nice couldn't hurt.
