One thing I was curious whether or not someone was going to mention, but am not surprised that no one did, is that people today tend to have extremely elevated expectations for what modern life is SUPPOSED to be, which in turn raises expenses far beyond what they actually need to be.

If you're at a point in life where money is really tight or harder to come by, because you're not in a position to really support yourself extravagantly, there are a lot of ways you can cut back on those expectations and make ends meet.

It seems like most people today have completely lost all ability to differentiate between luxuries and necessities, and treat a ton of things that aren't even remotely necessary as things they literally cannot live without. Which plays a role in why their expenses wind up being so high compared to what they're making.

It's also worth noting that there's a significant difference between someone who is moving out at age 18 and intending to start living a life as an adult with a job from that point on, and someone who is planning to go to college with the intent to pursue a career in a field that requires at least a college degree as opposed to something with more on-the-job training. Trying to hold a basic job down to help pay for schooling is radically different from, say, being apprenticed to a plumber or electrician and planning to spend the next few decades doing exactly that.

(Oh, and there's also the consideration of where you choose to live - there are a lot of places where cost of living is MUCH higher or lower than other places. Which is often tied to local employment opportunities to some degree, but it's not always a 1-to-1 correspondence).

Pretty much what PO said.
However, you will not be able to afford a house, mid/high-end apartment, mid/high-end duplex, etc.
Now something like a cheaper apartment or mobile home? Its definitely doable. There are also a few assistance programs that are used to help out people with low-income. You can also learn good money-saving habits too.

I could go into a long post about how you can own your own home fairly easily still even without any college etc (actually probably easier without it), but I've done it before. I'll keep it simple. Just about anyone can become fairly rich in this country (the USA) if they are willing to put the work in and really want it.

Won't always be easy, you'll have to make sacrifices and you will have to WORK, for years, and with most of your time, but yes, anyone can become a millionare by 40 pretty easy in this country, probably even without a high school diploma to be honest.

In fact, with certain situations available now adays (such as 50k homes in cleaveland being sold for $10k-$12k, and renting for 1k a month), buying selling cars initially etc, you could probably do it by 30 if you worked hard at it (and have at least 10 mill by 40 in that case).

You gotta have some brains, imagination, the willingness to work hard and the ability to avoid dangerous/risky chances and focus on the slightly slower, but more sure financial options.

Work 1-3 jobs (depending on the pay/hours etc), save half of what you make (at least) and buy/sell things with that money (always increasing your money WAY faster then investing it that way). Initially buy cars/sell them, move to mobile homes, then real homes. Reduce costs drastically by learning how to fix cars yourself, get your realtors license once you start buying/selling homes, and learn how to do repairs on homes yourself or get friends who will do it cheap (especially later if your doing multiple homes).

Done right you can easily continue to make a large profit by 30, and not even need to work at that point.

You don't need a 400k home.

In London that's the minimum for even a pretty shitty place.
