it is an achievement for certain. if it is something useless like art or music it is a hollow achievement but still definitely something that takes time and effort

As a mid-music degree student who makes more money playing music than anyone else I know in college, I have issue with this statement

Of course it is, no matter what the degree you had to spend countless hours in class and studying and taking exams. Effort was put into getting that degree

If it's in a stem field, probably. There's a lot of problems with the current academic system, but having a 4 year degree, even a 2 year degree, puts you far above most people. If you have 0 debt after getting a 2 year or 4 year degree, you've got a lot of potential, especially if your degree is stem related. Honestly though, there's a lot of factors that go into the development of a stable career.

Yeah I don't think every degree is equal obviously but any degree is still a great achievement. There's a lot that goes into going to a lot of the colleges in the first place, since you pretty much work your entire life up to that point leading up to it.

It's a minimum requirement to a better chance at a good life. Without degrees, unless you have phenomenal connections or are doing vocational stuff, you're starting at such a low point. I can't even imagine recovering from that unless you do physical work your whole life

Yeah that plays into the phenomenal connections thing. You can pretty much do whatever you want with connections

Honestly, my program is so easy, despite how 'competitive' it is. I've been on the dean's list with a 3.85GPA for 3 years and I feel like I'm not doing any 'real' work on my grades.

A lot of programs are pointless; and only exist to provide a 'professional' registration system.

depends on the uni where you get the degree and what major you did.
Getting degree in gender study at a university with 90% acceptance rate just means you can get glorified certification to apply a job at McDonald

Depends on the degree, but I have mixed feelings about programming and CS degrees.

Between those two degrees combined, I am on year 6.

Time consuming as fuck, would it be worth it looking back? Probably not, considering the fact that I don't have a career yet (possibly my fault living in a remote area).

He's living in a remote area is the problem. But the IT industry is pretty big on remote work so it shouldn't be impossible for somebody with 2 CS degrees under his belt

I'm talking about would it be worth it to chase the degree rather than just being self-taught.

The degree itself is a major time sink + debts.

The topic title was

I would say meh for this career field.

I'm self-taught more or less in an IT industry. Frankly, I'm kinda struggling. A good base of knowledge gets you far
