we're already past the point of no return for quite a few things. soon we will be past the point of no return for the world being able to support human life. it wont affect any of us but it will affect our children. also in 10-20 years time we will start seeing the effects

to people who are so adamantly against the idea of climate change: may i ask why you refuse to believe? what do you realy think scientists have to gain by lying about it?

may i offer what i really think? youre afraid of change. you dont want to have to adjust anything about your cozy way of living that youve grown used to all of these years.

anything that potentially threatens that and you get defensive. its a natural instinct i suppose, i understand it.

do you all believe that we shouldnt try to pursue trying to find new methods for free, clean, and abundant energy for all?

They think they're like the forward thinking futurologists who question whether chemotherapy will become a redundant and inefficient way to treat cancer in the future and don't realise they're more like the crazy cat ladies who scream at their doctor because clearly cancer is a conspiracy invented by the chinese to reduce the population

There is only one developed country in the world where this is even a debate - because old rich businessmen have politicized it as their bank balance is more important than the future of the earth.

It's one of the reasons why the stereotype of Americans being less intelligent exists.

Were already doing this with advancing technology though

by still heavily using coal, oil, and nuclear energy sources.

Nope. The problem is that it's changing magnitudes faster than it ever has in history, starting at the industrial revolution, and life can't evolve fast enough to keep up. Maybe it's not natural.

being fair, nuclear does not contribute to climate change, although it poses some problems of its own, those problems are far less immediate.

Sure we can.

Plant a fuckton of trees and hemp.
Wait about sixty years.

Good luck with fucking over every economy on the planet, and convincing hippies not to light up all that hemp.

I do not disagree, but I have to emphasize that the problems are not directly linked. Climate change and the need to cut carbon emissions is a problem that requires addressing on a very rapid timeframe; the impact of nuclear waste will not be felt as rapidly and if it enables us to cut emissions, it's a valid short-term solution.

"It pollutes" isn't really the issue, "it pollutes in a specific way that is a present crisis" is the issue.
