Assuming the couple is telling the truth, come to think of it, I can see how it could happen.

Most Halloween costumes and decorations are clearly meant to be a certain thing, but have vague, inoffensive or copyright-friendly names. President Hair and Caribbean Swashbuckler for example.

All takes is for one dumb store to stock Hanging Corpse from some racist distributor, and for some ignorant buyer to pick it up.

The creators of the thing probably could have did a better job at making it look decrepit. Like a dirty, cut up shirt, with bloodstaines on it. You gotta be careful these days. I resisted the notion at first, but it really does seem that people are all about their touchy feely these days.

It's possible that the creator really was going for "lynched black dude" but maybe not.

The only thing that gives me the impression that it might not be a zombie (I've seen hanging zombies before), is the notable prestine white shirt. From the picture, I can't tell what race the doll is suppose to emulate. It just looked like a decayed corpse. The white shirt could have been an oversight, or it could have been an intentional depcition of a lynching.

Either way, you gotta be careful with what you display. People are always watching, and some look for reasons.

But from that low quality pic it looks pretty bad yeah and their stupid justification and it being Alabama dont exactly help their case.

As for the couple in question, like i said above, maybe they just were blissfully ignorant to it and made a mistake, but their defense of "we thought it was a burnt white guy" doesn't help me believe that they didn't know what they were doing, or that it didn't at least cross their mind while they were putting it up...
