Geralt will be closer to Shepard than Dovhakiin, if anything.

Dovhakiin is a nameless, faceless entity that you are free to design and then RP as you see fit. There's very little in the game's design that mandates who this character is. Therefore, they aren't so much a character as they are an avatar. Less so with Commander Shepard, who at least has something off a background, and a canonical appearance. However, in that regard, Geralt is actually the most defined of the three. We know precisely what he looks like, and it isn't some generic space marine dude. While both he and Shepard have quests that play like CYOA novels, there's more actual character to most of the writing in The Witcher. I think Geralt's credentials as a character are much stronger.

And lest we forget, Shepard put up a significantly impressive performance in CB9. "Only" getting quadrupled in a match between the unstoppable force and the immovable object is actually surprisingly solid. This was after he upset Aeris in round 2. Ignore a character that's on par with that kind of strength at your own peril.

If this had happened three years ago... I wouldn't have cared because I hadn't plays LIS back then. Now I would look back on it and love it.
