I disagree! We were told the free market system, capitalism and globalization would be a windfall for working class people and it's been the exact opposite of that. We now have American workers making less money when adjusted for inflation than workers in the 1970s.

Ya, because of consumerism.

There's an interesting anecdote; The play 'The Grapes of Wrath' was brought to Russia during the Cold War because it was a critique of capitalism, but it was pulled by the government when the Russian people noticed that even the poorest Americans could own cars.

Kynesian Capitalisim is the most efficient and effective economic system ever developed for growing societal wealth.

When that wealth is herded by a few and not reinvested in the society that created it it is wasted for nothing more than material possessions that do not contribute to the economy.

The simple fact is that income inequality, systematic discrimination,political partisanship, and a host of other issues have reached unsustainable levels. Something dramatic must be done or this will be the final chapter in US history. All empires fall, it may be our turn.
