Okay Im playing this Zelda Special Edition

You start with all the non-dungeon sub-items, including the Power Bracelet and Blue Ring, 6 hearts total, the White Sword, the Magical Shield, 8 bombs, and 255 Rupees

Also it seems like all the secret doors on the overworld map are already open

I guess some people think Zelda 1 is too hard?

I explored to see which Heart Containers on the overworld they took out to give you 3 extra starting hearts. Its the one east of the desert, the one along the south shore, and the one under a tree on the south side of the lake.

FWIW it's not a romhack of the game, it's just a savestate. If you try to start a second file it starts with nothing. It's like they started the game and literally just walked around all of the overworld getting everything possible that doesn't require entering a dungeon, went back to the first screen, and savestated. Also if you try to just use the regular battery save to come back to the game later you'll be in for a major letdown: the game automatically loads that savestate every time you start it so all battery save is erased. You have to use savestates only if you want to keep your data

Oh now I get it

Theyre starting you with literally everything you could possibly have without going into a single dungeon

Its kind of ridiculous though for an experienced player. I made this topic less than an hour ago and Im already 5 dungeons deep

if I recall correctly if you beat the game and start over you have nothing but P wings in your inventory. Judging by how complicated that Zelda thing is, the save state for Mario 3 will probably just be an employee having already beaten the game and starting you there

Is there any real strategy for dealing with Gleeok? The multi-headed dragon who keeps popping up with another head each time.

Ive never been able to figure anything out that works well besides just a berserker rage on him and tanking his shots with potion at the ready

I think my strategy was to just spam sword beams and not get hit, but really that works for almost everything in Zelda 1.

There's only one shot visible on screen at a time.

So I like to position myself so it has to take a long route before hitting a wall, like going diagonally to a corner. Then get a hit or two in.

I did it with three hearts!

Just realized also

Since whoever played this to get this savestate had to bomb every secret cave and burn every secret bush, but LEAVE the money for us, that means to get the items they had to grind like 500 Rupees just from enemies

What a fun job

I mean, if it's a save state it's totally possible - the results from the money making game are set as soon as you walk in the door. Just save state, pick one at random, check which one has the highest payout, load state, and grab that one instead.

If you want another tip on Gleeoks, their hitbox is placed in such a way that you can stab to the right of it and still get hits in, so if I don't have beams I try to stand on the right side only

Also they probably save scummed on Money Making game to make that savestate rather than grinding out 1000s of rupees on enemies

Gleeok's a bastard and the only way I know how to fight him is just to duck and weave around his shots as much as possible. he does have KIND OF a predictable rhythm to it

grinding a bunch of rupees off of enemies isn't that horrifying a proposition, just farm ghinis

I would how well it works as a speed game. I've seen some people have started working on routing the game but I haven't seen a video of a full speedrun yet.
