There may be some regret among the top brass of ABC over the firing of Roseanne Barr.

According to a report from The Daily Mail, two senior executives at the network are expressing hesitation ahead of next weeks premiere of the Roseanne spinoff The Conners, suggesting that her firing last summer may have been a knee-jerk reaction.

We didnt think it through properly. What Roseanne did was wrong but we shouldnt have rushed to fire her. It was almost a knee-jerk reaction by Ben [Sherwood] and Channing [Dungey] who should have launched an investigation, a source told The Daily Mail. This would have given them more time to listen to the public, advertisers and cast members to determine the best decision.

The Conners has the entire cast returning without Roseanne, but one executive fears there simply isnt enough interest without its star.

When we greenlit The Conners we thought that the public would tune in to see the family return but what weve discovered is that people want Roseanne they dont want the family by themselves, another source said. The marketing and publicity teams are horrified as no matter what promotional material is released and lets be honest its been limited for a show that launches next Tuesday Roseannes fans come out in force stating that they wont watch the show.

An ABC insider admitted of a pretty grim forecast for The Conners.

What were expecting is for there to be some tune in so fans can actually learn how Roseanne departs, but from there the worry is the ratings will freefall, the source continued. In the end the ratings are all that matter and there are many people at Disney and ABC who are worried that firing Roseanne will see their Tuesday night ratings drop substantially. And should The Conners flop, Channing and her team will have many questions to answer.

Most of the people who watched the show were conservatives. They will definitely not watch the show.

Liberals won't just randomly start watching a show they never liked or watched.

And the true fans of the show won't watch because they are mad that after all the years the it took Abc to revive the show, they decided to kill off the main character in less than a day.

Well I doubt anyone will be watching the new show without her.

Exactly, but some people fall for these type of things easily for some reason.

Funny how they say that and yet apparently nothing said about James Gunn. In fact I heard it was a very quick, unanimous decision to fire him by the board for something he said over a decade ago. Meanwhile theyre regrettful for firing someone very soon after they said some extremely racist things. What a terrible double standard.

As much as I agree it should not have been said, it was not a good idea to fire such a 'big name.' (Both Gunn and Barr).

That said, as much as Barr and Gunn will be missed, I HOPE they do not 'return' even if they are begged to. Teach people a lesson that a person's work does not equal their views.

I watched the first episode out of pure curiosity last year. I'm not exactly a fan but I have to admit this is stupid. No one wants the show without the lead. That's like Seinfeld comeing back without Jerry or Fraiser without Fraiser.
I wouldn't tune into see that on sheer principal of how stupid the idea is. And I can see most fans not tuning into The Conners for the same reason.
