Sony has a good run for Venom as many pundits thought the sequel would drop a massive 65%+ as most comic book movies in its second weekend given A Star Is Born was neck and neck with the movie in midday week but it looks like the people turned up Saturday as it jumped an impressive 60% on Saturday and now it will end the weekend with 35.5M while a Star Is Born is second with 28M.

Venom only fell 55% which is much less than what people thought and will now beat Ant Man and the Wasp at the Box Office. It could end its domestic run at anywhere between 240-260M

First Man however underperformed while Goosebumps 2 overperformed.

First Man and Goosebumps are neck and neck at 16.2M and Sunday will decide who takes 3rd as audiences didn't seem all that interested in seeing the First man on the Moon.

Are you surprised Venom only dropped 55%?

55% is a pretty normal drop, really not surprising. Also it doesn't seem like it's gonna pull a huge profit for Sony depending on what their marketing budget was.

Not sure why people want to use this to stick it to the critics. Shit movies make bank at the box office all the time. Like Suicide Squad and the Transformers films.
It's brand power and recognition more than the quality of the movie itself.

I saw it last night, it was pretty poor. The first like, 40 minutes of the movie nearly put me to sleep. When Venom showed up they worked in a really fun rapport with Eddie and their banter was great, but it was being dragged down from all sides by really weird editing, a nonsensical plot and a nothing villain.

It's basically a brainless jump from action scene to action scene after the initial terrible part, so I get why people like it and why the box office is good. People trying to use it as their hill to die on in their battle against critics is really funny though.
