It makes sense. The entire franchise tends to revolve around the movies, so when there is a big gap in main series films, there tends to be less games and tie-ins coming out. It's been that way for a long time. Even the older games tended to coincide with the re-releases. The games are basically used to build hype for the movies, which are used to sell toys and other merch.
