Boxing died after the lame Mayweather and Pacquiao fight. And the fact that it was somewhat revived temporarily with the McGregor fight is a joke. Boxing had to bring someone in from a different sport to get people interested again.

Mma has taken over combat sports. It's more exciting. And let's all be honest, we want to see people fight, not see people punch each other with a ton of limiting rules.
Plus boxing is a sport that I can't see anyone enjoying unless you have a decent understanding of what's going on. And most people obviously don't --- "People incapable of guilt usually do have a good time" -Detective Rust Cohle ... Copied to Clipboard!

People are more aware of CTE and of all sports, boxing is most dangerous. It will eventually go away, the glory years are long past.

MMA is a much fairer sport and a much more accurate measurement for who the better fighter is. If you're in an MMA match and your opponent has a longer reach, you can potentially negate it with a takedown. In boxing, you're basically just fucked.
That said, boxing is more artistic and more entertaining to watch when the match is good. What killed boxing is the defensive mindset. You lay back, land more punches, and win on a decision. You get the winner's share of the purse and who cares if the paying audience is bored or not? You're not here to be their damn gladiator. I think boxing would be well served to cut the number of rounds from 12 to 6. It would force boxers to go all out by removing the potential for exhaustion. If someone wished to keep his hands up for 80% of the bout and win on points, his opponent could unleash a relentless assault and break through that defense without worrying about dragging his gloves by the end of the fight. It would force competition. If the UFC had as many rounds as boxing, it'd be equally boring as what modern boxing has become. ... Copied to Clipboard!

What killed boxing was Tyson going to jail and no compelling heavyweights. its crazy how boxing really only has had 6 american boxing standouts in its history: dempsey, louis, marciano, foreman, ali, and tyson. crazy how there hasn't been an american heavyweight star since tyson. ive made so many topics about this, USA population is 320,000,000 and in 2018 there isn't one american heavyweight whos actually good. and the excuse that all potential heavyweight champions are in the NFL and NBA is not a good one. --- ... The average boxing viewer age has skewed way upwards in recent times - younger people just largely aren't interested anymore when MMA exists as an arguably more exciting alternative.
Certainly, the likes of Ronda Rousey and Conor McGregor have become far bigger mainstream names than any new American boxer in the last decade. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Boxing would be cool if there was unlimited rounds, then you can't just dance around to win by a decision (though I suppose you could wear your opponent out). Too bad that's a terrible idea for the health of the players though.
