Heres a map to help explain.
 Blue dots are houses, the one circled is mine. I turn left out of the driveway, as illustrated. (On corner) Green circles are pedestrian cars and red circle is the school bus. Heres my question. If the bus is two houses down picking up a kid, with traffic stopped in both directions, can I legally turn left? --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

My hunch says that you would need to wait until the bus is finished, but it also seems like something that could vary by state.

I try to wait until the kid gets on the bus, but while the lights are still flashing.

That is legal.

Encroaching the area immediately in front of and behind the bus (say about 10-20ft) is illegal while lights are flashing. If you are a fair enough distance away, then there is no problem with you moving as described.
