At least some people admit it would bother them and that's their personal problem. Better to own it than pretend it's anyone else's fault but your own

I don't see how fault comes into play. It isn't his fault his face looks like that. It isn't anyone's fault that they just so happened to be in the restaurant at the same time and it isn't anyone's fault that everyone involved hasn't lead a life to where they ended up with an iron stomach.

On a more serious note, he should not have to cover anything. This is something that happens and things like this can be a nice reality check for people. You think this is a bad thing, donate to cancer research let's help prevent this from happening to others. If you've already made your order, sure. When I have no appetite, I can't come up with what I'm going to want to eat later. I wait until I'm hungry to think about that.

There would still be a thread full of people acting superior if everyone else in the restaurant had done what you just suggested. Imagine everyone there immediately took their food to go and then it was just him and the staff in the restaurant.

As someone who has actually lost their appetite due to legitimate phobias, that isn't how it works for me. I understand you're having a field day coming up with the most kooky scenarios to justify being an asshole to a cancer survivor but it's not really applying to reality.

If I see hideous disfigurement and that ruins my appetite, I just chalk that up to bad luck and eat when I'm hungry again. Misfortune is a part of life. Not being hungry anymore is preferable to missing a nose and an eye so my misfortune could be a lot worse.

Unless he was eating an ortolon, there's no reason he needed to cover his face to eat somewhere.

He probably should cover his face for health reasons, but that's not the restaurant's job. If they're worried about his facial features, sit him in the back like they do with black people.
