Delay is 30 minutes. For good measure, let's say they bled out of their face in some place after falling into the tray on the ground. - Results (19 votes)

I had a server spill a drink all over me one time. I was covered across my shirt and all over my lap with soda. She was absolutely horrified, terribly apologetic, but handled it professionally. She got me some towels so I could clean myself up, then we had dinner and everything else was fine. By the end of the evening, we were all laughing about it. She had never spilled a drink on anyone, and I have never had one spilled on me before. The manager comped out meal and the server got most of the meal's value as a tip because of it.

Shit happens, people make mistakes. No sense getting ass-devastated because of it.

The same I normally would unless they were clearly fucking around or drunk/high AF. Depending on circumstances maybe more.

People make mistakes. I tip based on attitude and thoughtfulness/throughness.

A single mistake unless its someting absolutely vital(Like not telling kitchen about a major food allergy) tends to not affect my Tipping.

Their reaction to the mistake is the more important factor. If they spilled and dont give a fuck I am of course leaving no tip or a insultingly low one.

No, but the tipping culture here is different. You tip for good service, not because you feel you have to.

I once got a tip BECAUSE I spilled some chicks drink on her. I went to set it down, and the condensation made it slip, and the bottom cracked off and the rest of the cup went into her lap

$10 when they left, and i wasnt even the server

Depends. I'm extremely moody. It could set me off badly or possibly make want to help her out in some way.

If the waitress in question is cute though, it goes a long way to keeping me tame.

If it happens once, and their response is along the lines of "oh, shit, sorry, we'll replace your food, you might have to wait a bit longer", I'd tip enough to cover any discount they gave me over it plus a bit more.

If it's a regular occurance at a venue, I wouldn't tip - and I'd probably stop going back.

Pretty much everywhere except the US. "Compulsory" tipping is very much a US thing, because other places don't tend to have that "pay below minimum wage because tips are meant to make up the difference" thing - so tips become just a bonus for those who do really good service.

This is true.

I'm from the UK. I still tip usually. I'll tip unless I'm given a reason not to.

I live in a US state that actually passed a law requiring tipped staff to still get the same minimum wage as everyone else. Compulsory tipping is still expected. It's ingrained into the culture so deeply that even if the law is changed it doesn't make a difference.
