I might have lost my phone in the car on my last Uber trip, but unfortunately when I go to report a lot item, it asks me to sign in.

...And to sign in, it sends a 4-digit verification number that I'm supposed to enter. And just where is that verification number sent? My phone, of course. Is there a way around this circuitous nightmare?

Yes, I went to their website, but as I've mentioned, I need to sign in. And to sign in, I need to enter the verification code that's sent to my phone, which I don't have.

Yeah I read that phones are the most commonly lost thing on Ubers, so you would think they would make it a lot more convenient to get in touch with them. Unfortunately, their customer service line is either only for emergencies, or requires you to call from your phone with the account.

Damn I'm lucky. I checked outside and sure enough, it must've fallen out of my pocket when I got out of the car. No damage except for a slightly noticeable scrape on the case.

oh sorry i misread your OP.

but i guess this brings up a cautionary point. SMS verification sucks. at least with things like Google Authenticator or Authy, you can save back up codes so you can put it on other phones you might still have, or use them as verification itself.

and for a while, it was really easy for con-artists to trick customer service reps to switch your phone number over to their phone and use the SMS to get into whatever account.

thats why i hate SMS verification. Authy all the way baby!
