Beer sales across the country are declining, and according to Bar Rescue host Jon Taffer, theres one primary culprit to blame: marijuana.

Beer sales are way down right now, he said on Friday during an interview with FOX Business Stuart Varney. Theyre in the toilet. And craft beer is down, premium beer is down. And we blame a lot of it on cannabis.

Thats largely because users of cannabis -- eight states, and Washington D.C., have legalized recreational marijuana, and 29 have legalized medicinal usage -- stay at home, sit on their couches and opt to not go to bars, Taffer said.

Craft beer has lost its luster, he said. The small boutique breweries have lost their luster. And the beer category is in big trouble.

According to a report from Business Insider Opens a New Window. , millennials and members of Generation Z are responsible for dragging down beer sales. A report from Berenberg Research found that members of Generation Z preferred drinks like wine, vodka and gin to beer.

The solution? According to Taffer, it could be cannabis-licensed bars, which would allow patrons to smoke or ingest marijuana in places that also have obtained liquor licenses.

I would [welcome it, he said. Because its eroding my industry. So either I have to accept the erosion, or participate in that erosion. Thats my choice. I have to move with the marketplace.

...okay, so he does actually want to move along with the times and address this by changing the business, rather than just complaining and saying "you should ban my competitors". Good on him.

You're comparing people who smoke pot 24/7 to those who just drink on the weekend, of course there's going to be a difference.

I've known more pot smokers - even the 24/7 type - who pass as "normal" than alcoholics who do.

How can you compare drinking on the weekend to smoking every (other) day?

If we are going to compare on an honest level, people who drink daily vs. people who smoke daily should be examined. I'd bet money on the daily drinkers being the more useless and dangerous ones, tbh.

There is this illusion of health with weed so people are much more likely to smoke it daily than drink daily.

I do pick the beer, yeah. I'd prefer a few nights of risky behavior to a lifetime with a damaged brain. Everyone knows alcohol is bad but you still have topics and posts like this claiming pot is not a big deal and if it is who cares because beer is bad too. Fuck people like you trying to hide that information.

Yeah it's more like bars are in the toilet which is what this guy exclusively does. Bars at one time were hook up places and now that tinder and other apps exist there's no reason to use it that way. That just leaves them as places to hang out with overpriced alcohol and shitty food which the newer gens have realized isn't a good deal
