Some CEmen were against it, most didn't really believe he'd go through with it so the reaction was quite milquetoast. Eventually the mods deleted the topic and CE continued as normal. A few nights later the same user (yeah go figure, he was only warned for the initial topic) returned posting pics of things getting lit on fire. He posted pretty detailed descriptions of how he did it. A lot of CE was pretty hostile towards him for doing it, but others were egging him on/acting like they didn't believe he'd actually done it. Some CE users contacted local news agencies and a few days later one of the reporters posted an update that he'd gotten arrested, that the police had already tracked his prints and suspected him anyway but it was good to have the topics that he'd made to solidify charges against him. Then the mods declared exterminatus on the issue and even mentioning the dude's username or the issue got you banned for years following the event. Eventually he came back to CE and said he'd spent time in prison and had reformed and gave an update on his life. Pretty sure they banned his new account after the update, but I dunno. This was all years ago and the situation was even farther back than that. There are some people who claim CE egged him on, and while it's true there were a lot of disbelievers asking for more proof the archives I've seen indicate that CE was rather hostile towards him in general dodrio.
