Like this is the single biggest factor preventing me from making my own game. In my mind I know I could even go the "make shitty placeholders, hire a proper artist if I actually finish anything" route, but I just can't bring myself to actually settle for that, even during WIP stage. :/

I've tried to get good at it myself, but for 2D I suck at animation, and 3D while I can animate fairly well I suck at both modelling and actually coding for 3D. I even bought myself a cheap graphics tablet a while back, because I can draw a bit better by hand than I can in computer graphics, but it just doesn't feel like it suits what I'm trying to do (I did manage to get used to the "you don't see what you're drawing on the pad as you draw it" element, at least, though).

Pretty much the limit of what I can make without it looking like ass is Lemmings tilesets. Although modern Lemmings clones don't have the 16-color limitations of the official games, they're still pretty low resolution, and a high standard isn't expected, and very little animation is involved.

I probably would've made heaps of shit by now if it wasn't for that holding me back. :/ Like I've got heaps of ideas, I could definitely handle the coding side of things, but I just can't bring myself to accept shitty graphics, even as placeholders. Instead, my only notable achievements in terms of game design are heaps of (pretty well-received, to be fair) Lemmings fan content, and a RPG Maker project that I put fuck-all effort into any element of other than battles (I pretty much made it because I wanted to make custom FFX-style battles, but no suitable editor for FFX existed).
