I mean, I still own the first game, but would really like to play Luigi U, but it feels like a step back, buying what was originally a Wii U game. I dunno. What do other people think of it?

NSMBU generally isn't considered as good as NSMB Wii but some people seem to like it. I enjoyed Luigi U a lot more and would recommend it just for that game alone.

Is Luigi U like Bros U? I mean, in addition to standard playthroughs of levels, are they also the star coins, etc. to find, or it just pared down, so you just go through levels and that's it?

I honestly cant recommend it sadly.

I really liked they brought back the world map from smw and different yoshis having different abilities, but its just not as good. If you love mario get it otherwise its a pass.

The levels are a bit shorter and there's a 60-second time limit on all of them, so there's an emphasis on speed and finding the best strategy past certain obstacles. It can get pretty tricky. Luigi's physics are also different. There are star coins and secret exits just like in the other games. The overworld is exactly the same as NSMBU but the levels are all 100% new. Same power-ups too but you'll occasionally come across the power-ups from NSMB Wii.

The time limit is the biggest change really. I'm sure it sounds annoying but it's actually a lot of fun.

WHAT!? NSMBU is the best 2D Mario game since SMW2. It blows the Wii one away.

WHAT!? NSMBU is the best 2D Mario game since SMW2. It blows the Wii one away.

Eh... this may explain your unique opinion here.

Some people may like it more, but based on all the comments and reviews I've seen the common opinion is that NSMB Wii was better.

I thought both NSMBU and NSMBW were great, but the Wii game was better. So much originality and clever ideas...the U game had almost nothing new at all, except for the new modes. Couldn't believe it. Remember using the motion sensing controls in the Wii to control the lights on a boat? Or tilting a platform as it rose up through an area?
