If you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all. I learned that in grade school. You don't have to be mean or nice, just keep your mouth shut. It's pretty easy.

I'd say yes. It's very easy to be mean towards anyone but being nice at times feels forced to me.

It's easy to be nice to a stranger, but harder to be nice to people you really know. It's the person that makes it hard to be nice to them IMO.

Eh I even have a hard time being mean to people who were mean to me. My general reaction is I start ignoring them as much as possible and only speak to them if I must. But if it keeps up I'll eventually break. Then I usually go back to being nice provided they at the very least go back to being civil.
