Why does Sheldon realize he is being fooled by Howard. Basically, what happens in this scene, is that Leonard flees his apartment because Sheldon has caught some sickness from his neighbor who had arrived home from some place, I believe. Anyway, Leonard calls Howard to alert him about Sheldon's condition, and asks if they can lie low until the latter's cold clears up. But then, Sheldon calls, and Howard answers the phone in his own voice. Then Sheldon answers Howard, telling him that he is sick. What Howard does now, is imitate the voice of his mother, so that he needn't avoid any confrontation with Sheldon. What's strange is that Sheldon buys it, despite having heard Howard answer in his own voice just seconds earlier. What's up with that? Is his cold messing with his intelligence or something? Did Sheldon not hear Howard's initial "hello"? What's going on here? Am I overanalyzing this scene on a television show lasting fewer than thirty seconds?
