He's 37, lives at home with his mom, doesn't work, plays video games all day OR plays on his computer (reads manga/watches movies he's downloaded) and is just generally a worthless sack of shit in all regards.

He has no shame, like, at all. He has absolutely no discipline or self control. He's so bad, in fact, that he LET his teeth rot out of his head. No joke. He simply wouldn't brush his teeth. It got to the point that his teeth, or what was left of them, had to be cut out by a dentist. So now he just doesn't have any teeth. He won't bathe, unless his mother begs him to do so, and he won't even trim his nails. He lets his toe nails get so long that they get all this crust built up under them, and then he has to wear socks so the odor is bearable.

He falls under pretty much every weeaboo stereotype ever (and then some), as well. Mall katanas? Check. Wears a black trench coat? Check. Wears fedoras? Check. Has an actual fucking picture frame with lingerie wearing anime girls on his computer desk? Check... My god, how he isn't embarrassed to exist, I will never know.

It's like, I wanna just go beat the shit out of him. Wake him the fuck up, or something.

The worst part is... EVERYONE enables him. He only has two friends. Me, and another guy. And we've been enabling him. His other friend bought him a 2000+$ computer last year for Christmas. I've bought him video games. His mom keeps him in food and cigarettes. I mean, he doesn't really have any incentive to change, because everything is taken care of for him. Entertainment? His two dumbass friends. Shelter, food and cigs? His mommy.

One of things that makes it difficult to just sever ties with him is that he's generally a fun gaming buddy. Since he's such a loser, with absolutely zero life, he's pretty much always available to game. Another thing is that I've known him since my teenage years. We've been friends for over 20 years. That's a lot of time to just cut loose.

I'm just blowing off a bit of steam in this topic, and I doubt anything will change. I mean, I know what needs to happen, but unless everyone gets on the same page, it won't happen. We all need to stop supporting him. That might motivate him to, you know, move from the damn computer chair.

You and the other friend are enabling him to some extent but most of the problem is his mom. Like... I dunno, most people I know (including myself) were more or less kicked out of home once we were out of college. Now like if he's out of work but desperately seeking a job and just needs to stay there temporarily its one thing, but obviously that isn't the case.

So I dunno, TC. None of my close friends are like that, a friend of mine has a couple siblings over 30 that still live with their parents, but they do at least have a job. It's super frustrating, though.

I have a roommate who's almost that bad. He stays in his bedroom and plays games all day. He sleeps at bizarre hours and constantly complains of being tired. No shit, you don't do anything and sleep all the time. He doesn't understand he shouldn't make noises if someone else is trying to sleep, like dropping the toilet lid or clattering dishes around. He tries to help with dishes, but he had to be taught how to wash dishes without flooding the kitchen. Now that we have a dishwasher, he's too goddamn lazy to do them at all. He's like this and he wants to be a chef. He had to be taught how to take a shower without flooding the bathroom. He's a brony. He's deathly afraid of bugs and needs help killing them. He'll scream like a baby if one flies in his face. And if he gets hurt he'll let out this traumatic scream and a string of profanities. It sounds like he lost a limb when he pinched a finger in his glasses hinge. He absolutely cannot eat a food with even a hint of any kind of onion in them. Like he'll order a dish at a restaurant, and refuse to eat any of it if he discovers onion. A bit of background: His mother didn't want him, so she sent him to live with his grandfather. His grandfather was remarried to some hag with kids. Since he's not one of the hag's offspring, she abused him all his life, calling him useless, etc all the time but let him stay in his room for 20 years doing nothing. His family couldn't be bothered to get him a driver's license or even ride a bike. They didn't want him, and I don't want him here either.

I mean, for me personally, I know there are some jobs I'd probably be too anxious to do, but I really want to work. I don't let my mental health get in the way of me working, and I wasn't letting my physical health bother me with working until I hurt my back and really couldn't work.

But your friend just sounds... sad. I don't know how any parent could watch their child sink to that level.
